Who has had to do this to there dual case and did it effect anything at high speeds.

Isn't that where they neck down and often break? I wonder if it broke and someone welded it up and ground it down smooth.

If I recall that was common on the 4 speed t-cases. We did it a number of times with no issues

Yup that's an early case from behind an l43 side shift transmission.
