Not as exciting as a wheat field but it got me my pyromania fix in

Gonna plant wheat in behind it. Corn makes so much residue its hard to plant and burning removes all the leaf and most of the stalk trash. We will still have to disc or scratch the ground before planting but now you can do it in one pass instead of two or three to get the ground right.
 
We have guys run a Phillips harrow over it, take the row cleaners off and drill straight into the stubble. I'm guessing they run a bunch of down pressure and the corn has had a few weeks to soften up a bit. I just know how our pigweed grows and I wouldn't want to give it a chance to get started. I gues the burning kills a good bit of the live plants and the seeds as well :dunno: We have some guys that burn their wheat field on the highway at night just to stir everybody up. It is very impressive the flames they will put out!!! How did the crop do this year?
 
It does kill down standing weeds for sure. Pigweed is out of control here too. Chemical don't have much effect on them and with the amount of seeds per plant it spreads like crazy. And as everywhere, not all farmers work as a hard as others to control weeds.

Not a bad year, we've had better and we've had worse. Most fields averaged 180-210. We got done yesterday with corn and will probably start beans next week.

If only prices were better. Pretty good on your corn.

Not sure what ya'll have tried, but what we are recommending here SC for our farmers is to use atrazine as a preemergent and come back with HalexGT as a post treatment. It seems to work well...then with the wheat we just burn it down and plant. The chemicals have usually done their job while the corn is in the ground and we don't have much of an issue.

Pigweed is easy to kill in corn.....well less difficult. Our problem is not chemistry its timing. Managing 5000 acres was easy with good prices and Glyphosate that worked. You miss spraying pigweed by a day and you have about lost the battle. When you have two farms 30 miles apart it is hard to keep that crap in chec with 2 less sprayers than last few years. The worst thing is that we created the problem. I hope we keep Liberty longer but we are seeing weeds that are living through Liberty applications.

Most people that don't farm or in the industry have no clue how big timing is. Timimg is everything from selling, planting, spraying I could go on and on. Very tuff job even more so this day and time . The seed companys are very interesting too.
