I'm sorry but there is no way in hell I'm buying a 10 year old vehicle with rust coming through. Not living in the Alabama where there are plenty without rust.

Chad you have probably sold more vehicles on here than anyone. What do think one with that kind of rust will look like in 5 more years?

Meh, I'm only in KC and that is super commonplace. All of our 01 up Chevies have missing rockers/CC and the frames aren't fawked. We aren't blowing steel brake lines and all the other BS that comes with an "up north" truck. Those trucks just rust. I own 2 right now, an 01 and an 04. Just part of it. All the others from that era rust out as well, but that is normal

Definetly not common in central north al.

I've found the crew cabs in that body style up here are better at not rusting than the extended cabs. The only extended cabs like that that don't rust up here live in barns ans aren't driving in the winter. I think all of those trucks up here need brake lines which is probably why you can get the whole pre bent set from the dealer for less than $75.

My 07 Duramax had rust bubbles in the rockers, and I even kept mine washed out and penetrating oil sprayed in them because I knew it was an issue. The rest of the undercarriage was perfectly clean

If I were going to fix the rockers on one of those trucks, I'd consider cutting it out and adding a piece of rectangle tube instead of a stock rocker. Or just wire wheel whats there and shoot it with bedliner, let the bedliner hold it together for the next 10 years till the bottom of the cab falls off.

I have a 1997 Chevy that looks like it came off the showroom floor but it's been in north Alabama all its life, salt will kill one only if it's driven in it just a few times it will start rusting. Rust is like a bad cancer, once it starts there's not much of a way to stop it.

that's funny, my 01 ext cab hasn't had a rocker in 5 years, my 04 CC isn't bubbling yet. I know its coming. Maybe something to that!
 
I have no idea what the 747 means that gets posted on here but seen this Reznor heating unit on top of a hatchery in Center Texas.

Seen this Ford this morning. Don't know why he did not just use the front end to get him home. HAHA

Must be something in the design that's letting the moisture in. My 04 ex cab was rusting out and my 05 cc isnt. It was to late to save my 04 but I had a buddy tell me to start using Murphys Oil soap when I washed all my vehicles. Says it leaves a light oil coating and prevents rust. I've had some bare spots on my bed from the old cap for over a year now and they haven't started to rust yet.

My brothers cc Chevy had rockers and bed fixed about 1.5 years ago and it's already bubbling and looking bad

I don't know why people that lives where they salt the roads do not undercoat the **** out of there vehicles when they are new, I think it would really slow it way down. thank God when it does snow here once every 10 years here, they just put down gravel.

I was aware of the cab corner rust issue with these trucks before I ever looked at this one. It's mostly with extended cabs 07 and back. Look a little harder and you will find one.

I highly doubt it came from up north, looks clean as **** under it, rust is just on the cab.

Looks like there is a problem with water getting into the cab corners and it can't get out, soaking the insulation, and starting the rust on the inside. It ain't nothing dad couldn't easily fix so I aint really worried about it. Most of these trucks are going for $2k+ more than what I gave for it with the roughly the same miles.

I guess if I had most of yalls money, I wouldn't have to buy an ole wore out rust bucket pile of ****.... haha

Looks like it has the L33 310 hp aluminum block 5.3 engine compared to the iron block 295 hp 5.3 engine. So that's a plus.

That might explain why I see Salt Life stickers in Ohio. The salt isn't as bad as the Brine **** they put on the road if there's snow in a 500 mile radius.

Haven't had time to let dad look at it, but I don't figure it would cost more than a grand to have the rockers/cab corners completely replaced, primed, painted and ready to go. Gonna replace the door side moldings too if they don't cost much, the white on them is faded a little. I rolled around under the truck before I bought it, undercarriage looks good. The only comprimised part of the truck is what I posted a picture of. It's not that big of a deal - it's paid for and to me, even if I have to spend a grand on it, is much wiser than going out and getting a $600 truck payment.

JDs is minor. I see a lot worse in southern Indiana and worse yet when you get near Indy and further north. The repair is quite an undertaking but I think that slip on rocker repair would be suitable for him. I hate paint and body work and suck at it though, so maybe this is not a good option. Since he has his dad as an option, he can get it done "right" for way less than most people.

I pulled the plugs out of my 06 CC and bought a "trailer kit" to coat inside the rockers and front lower fenders. The tube with 360 degree tip is sweet.

Yeah, dad is in the middle of fixing a 2015 Jeep Patriot for my mom and a '14 Hyundai car for my sister, he bought both wrecked and repairing on his own time outside of work, so he has a lot going on right now and these little rust spots are nothing that needs to be tackled immediately, so it may be a while before it's messed with anyway. I ain't worried about it regardless.
