The wife's 5.7 shat the bed on her way to work Thursday morning, Dmax to the rescue again. Thought it had spun a main but once I got it tore down found #8 had dropped a valve seat. Took both heads to the machine shop this evening but didn't get a picture. The head is pretty dinged up, seat material is embedded in the head and piston but most of it went out the exhaust. Got to decide if I am going to remove the piston, hone and replace or just clean up and Scotch brite the cylinder. Damn Dodge, had planned on spending my weekend at No Mercy 7!!!!! RTR

I've rebuilt 2 5.7s this year and the first one I decided not to replace the piston and had to take it apart again and replace it. They look ok until you take it out. Usually crushes the top of the piston and top ring. I would definitely replace it. It looked ok from the top just not the side. And the cylinder wall just had a small groove in it.

Ole rustbucket going in for rocker panel transplant tomorrow. Probably be a week or two before it's done, as they are going to make it low priority for cheaper labor rate. The plan is to cut out and replace full rockers on both sides, spray new rockers with Rock Guard like comes on the new trucks, then paint and be done. Said it should definitely be under a grand for total costs.

It's not really that it has drove me nuts, you literally can't see it unless you bend down til your head is even with the rocker. I just want to fix it before it becomes an actual problem that is more difficult and costly to fix. I wasn't in a hurry, but decided to drop by the body shop one day to see what they said about it and since they had that cab on hand with good rockers and talked like it would be cheaper than I anticipated, I figured I might as well go ahead and drop it off.

After the rockers are replaced, it will be rust free. Frame, floor pans, everything up under it looks no different than most any other truck around here. Muffler is rusty looking, but that's a non-issue. If it was an actual rust bucket, the bottom of the rear bumper, the tow package, the brake lines, and all sorts of other **** would be rusting to hell, but it is not. The problem area is isolated to where the most common rust is found on these trucks, so once it's fixed, and repainted with rock guard, there will be no more rust problem at all... and the rock guard will be a nice bonus out of the deal.

I sure am enjoying the hell out of 15mpgs and roughly 300 miles a tank! Ain't seen that out of a truck in 6 years! haha

When you click on a thread in tapatalk and it gives you the admin may have deleted thread screen, go back, click on the options icon at the top right of the thread and then click "jump to original post" and most of the time it will go to the first post immediately and you can just click on go to last page at the top and voi-lah.

Tapatalk would be awesome if it worked 100% all the time. If they'd perfect one version of it and leave it the fawk alone, it would be nice.

Welp, time to go to plan B - order rocker and cab corner replacement kit. Rockers on the cab in this picture were more rusty on the inside than mine haha.

Looks great Ant! Look forward to seeing it in person. I still havn't seen any pics of it being "Wheeled". I am beginning to think that it was a trailer queen this past weekend.

Note the scratches on the bottom of the chassis. I haven't killed it yet but it's been wheeled thumb.gif

Bet this was cool back when it was built
Thought that was the 3+3+3 Burle Smith truck. Coolest square body ever created.
