Not 100% sure but pretty sure it started in the front axle cv shaft/ front axle area. Truck started smoking and all of a sudden started vibrating like crazy. Pulled over and it was on fire and the front driveshaft was dragging and nothing to put the fire out with. Pretty helpless feeling. Just started throwing stuff out of the cab and unhooked from the trailer and got a guy driving by pull the trailer away from the truck
 
Looks like a battery fire by the location

Edit: I didn't see your post before I posted .

Dad ran a bad cv shaft in his till it melted the boot... I could see that burning up some stuff.

Yeah its been a heck of a week. Air compressor went out at the Body Shop Earlier this week and noone withing 2 hrs had the one i needed in stock so went to chattanooga (in this truck) tuesday to get a compressor and stayed at the shop till 9 that night getting it plumbed and wired in.
Now have to find a truck to borrow to make it to hawk pride tomorrow to take the family camping and riding. Im ready for a day off
 
This is the second Duramax that I've seen burn down like this in the past two weeks. I'm probably gonna start keeping a fire extinguisher in my truck because it is basically the same truck. I wonder what caused the other one to burn. It was burned in the front just like yours but I didn't want to pull over and ask the guy, he looked pretty bummed.
 
My insurance adjuster just called and said after he looked at mine he did a fire claim on another just like it except 2500, same year and everything
 
I think the front diffs/pinion bearings are bad to burn up in those trucks too because they slowly leak oil out from the CV shafts and NO ONE ever checks the oil i the front of an ifs truck. The CAD is supposed to keep the diff from turning, but the spider gears are always hauling ass when you're trucking down the road.

It doesn't' help that the trans lines and power steering lines are usually leaky/wet as hell too because of the ****ty crimp on the hoses.

Cool project though. We will be at Hawk Pride Saturday.
 
Had some fun down at Disney on the bike booyang while I was waiting on some parts for the xj.all most had it

Saw this sweet little Scout at a lot in Gardendale this morning. I didn't inspect it up close but it looks way too nice to wheel. I'd mall cruise the hell out of it though!!

That'll be next on the project list when we get her 4runner paid off

World Class Motors on 31S. If you get off at Mt. Olive and turn right onto 31 back toward Gardendale it's on the right.
