Can't drink beer on a zero turn....hell I been thinking about trading this 54" 22hp Kawi vtwin Deere in on a 38" single cylinder Snapper to make my time away from the wife last longer! Ha

How are you liking that mower? We just bought a house and I'm gonna have to mow about 2 acres. Been borrowing my dad's tractor to mow it for the time being until we get moved down there but I'll be in the market for a new mower once we get there. Thinking about just getting a nice riding mower instead of a spending the extra money on a zero turn.

Do not buy a cub cadet or any other mower with the stupid ass Bluetooth technology ignition system. My pos is going to the shop again to get it replaced, 4 times in 2 years, biggest pos I’ve ever owned and it wasn’t the cheap model either

It def does the job man. I wouldn't go no wider than 54" unless all your mowing is flat, easy to scalp the yard over bumps. The extra deck sticking out is awesome for trimming around things like trees and bushes tho. Right now I have about 4 acres to mow between 3 different properties. Your average top tier residential zero turn is packaged about the same as this tractor, around 22-23 hp kawi (unless Kohler and its around 24-25 hp, or worse a rebranded briggs), and runs 6-7 mph. A tractor like mine can be had for $2500 or less around here. I gave $3100 for mine but it was only 1 yr old and had 30 hrs on it. Was $4500 new. You can get a top tier residential zero turn mower used for just a little more. If I were gonna get a zero turn I would probably buy a Hustler Raptor SD 54". Older ones had kawi engines, then they went to kohler for a few yrs when they started selling them at big box stores like lowes. Now they put the kawi back in it this year. Think they are around $4k new for the 54". They are built tough for residential mowers. You'd have to spend $6k or more for a low tier commercial mower unless you got one with a bunch of hours on it.

I've found a few Hustler Raptor SD 54's on Craigslist with less than 100 hrs for about $3500 and thought about buying one to try but still keeping mine and selling which ever one I don't like, then I remember you can't drink on a zero turn lol. Mowing sucks but it sucks less when you can drink beer while doing it. In all honesty. I dont think a zero turn packaged like mine 22-23 hp vtwin, 54", 6-7mph, will shave much time off my mowing given the terrain and ditches. Takes me 2 hrs to mow one of my yards. Thats down from 3.5 hrs it took me on that single cylinder 42" John Deere riding mower from Lowes I did have and later sold to Gerald. It wouldn't cut thick grass good bc it lacked power. Mowing with a vtwin is like pulling with a diesel, its badass. I cut the 2 hr yard at the wife's old house every 2 weeks so its always thick grass each time I mow, vtwin cuts right through it. So going to a zero turn lets say might cut off 30 min of mowing, at that point its not that big of a deal when having to get dirty and mow 2-3 yards that day anyways, especially not counting getting drink beer while doing so.

So yeah, after much thought on a zero turn, I've just shut the idea of getting one down for now. It would cost more than it'd be worth to get a better one to significantly do it faster and cut time, AND I'd lose the ability to suck down some Miller Lite which directly enables me to care less about how ****ty it is spending over half a day on the weekend mowing instead of taking off for a ride on the bike.

If I'm gonna pay to have someone do anything it will be cut em down and grind the stumps. Lol. Otherwise, I guess I'll just let them thin theirself out and fire up the chainsaw everytime one falls. Wife says they are pretty....I'd just assume to have them completely gone.
 
looks like you need to cut every main limb on those bradford pears half way off from the trunk.


one of my neighbors has 40 or so of them up his driveway, they never break limbs or fall over, but he keeps them pruned up to about a 12' diameter ball.

Yeah these things are pretty big and have heavy branches that branch out wide, which is why it doesn't take much for them to split off everytime the wind blows. Idk what I'm gonna do with em yet. Might try to talk the wife into just getting rid of them.

I have no idea really. We bought the house from one of my friends and he and his wife lived there for probably 10 years since they got married. It was his in-laws land before they started living there so I guess they were planted before they ever lived there. probably 15-20ish years if I had a good guess. There are also 2 in the backyard. Wasn't but just a couple months ago that I lost 2 big limbs, one out of back yard and one by the driveway. Poulan Pro mickey mouse chainsaw quit on me cutting up the last ones so I threw it in the garbage and bought a mid grade Husqvarna. Now that I have a decent saw, I don't dread fawking with it as much. Lol

Thats awesome. My work partner is 70 yrs old and still a hard working badass. He was combat wounded in Nam, just had prostate cancer surgery a few yrs ago, started a cattle farm about 5 yrs ago, and retiring from our company this year. Doubt I'll be in that good of shape when I'm 70....may not even make it to 70 lol.

Actually, we get paid by the hour and all staff above us gets salary. Positions in our company solely work off of seniority, minus office staff. Old guy has worked in Shipping for longer than I have been at the plant. He was there, his partner bid on and got a dayshift job, so I bid on the opening for 2nd shift Shipping and was the only one in the plant that bid on it. Even more crazy, at the time I got it, I had only been full time for about a year or so and was the lowest seniority man in the whole plant and got the job. One other guy was gonna bid on it and told me he was, so I knew I wasn't gonna get it. Then he got busy working the night before the posting came down and forgot to bid on it. He was the one that called me at home the next day and told me I got the job lol. I was so pumped. Its a good job, but nobody wanted it bc its 5 8's instead of 4 10's and works very little overtime. The other guys on 2nd works 10s and usually 1 or 2 days of overtime. I like my set 40 hrs just fine. Lol
