Project First Gen..

Got up slowly this morning and headed to the shop.. (working by urself gets old when all they do is play x-mas music on the radio this time of year) anyways, I got the third back in his home and painted the axle.

pulled the inner axle seals, popped the old races out and installed the new ones, prepped the knuckles and WTF I don't have any of the felt protectors! Luckily I hadn't taken out the trash yet and went dumbster diving forever. Didn't find anything so I call my buddy who helped me take them off the first day. He said they never had any!! Well that explains why they leaked so bad haha.. So I got on the comp and ordered the rock ring felt protectors from TG.. Hopefully get here friday or saturday.

So I litterly laid on the cement floor and dosed off for an hour or two.. Got back up with little motivation knowing there wasn't much I could do.. So I cleaned, what a surprise.. got my little cart back in order.

took apart my stock rear pack and called it a day.. Guess tomorrow I'll finish making the front packs and get the hangers mounted up.

Well finally got somewhere today.

Started off by finishing up my front axle. Looks all new again!

Then created my front packs.

1st- 1st leaf from a 80 rear pack
2nd- 2nd leaf from a 80 rear pack
3rd- 3rd leaf from a 80 rear pack
4th- 1st leaf from a 84 rear pack
5th- 2nd leaf from a 84 rear pack

Then mounted up my spring hangers and got the front axle set up. Then added the tires. Good part is the front pack matches the rears!

The only problem is my rear shackle angle went to crap! I mounted them so they had negative arch but the weight of the truck was alot more then expected.

So I'm not sure what to do. Move the hanger forward more.. Add a 6th leaf. Or both?

I think it is too steep myself, I would just move the hanger forward, maybe an inch then set it down and see where your at. Do you have any plans for clamping the front leafs to keep them from fanning out? Dang that is a clean truck.

Yeah after some tinkering i'm just going to move the front hangar forward. I plan to get some leaf clamps just not sure where.. Hopefully my NAPA has some.

cut off the front hanger today and moved it forward, fixed my shackle angle and finished welding the rear mounts on. Added my rear diff armor and cut my fenders too.

Just ran into a hump with mounting my shocks.

Got the rear shocks installed. And cutout some room for the steering box. Drilled my holes for the box and will get it mounted tomorrow.

Then I'll do my front shocks. Still need to extend my steering shaft then its "driveable"

But after that I still need to gusset my front cross member. Rebuild the supports I cut out for the box and make an x-member for the rear. Then....
Purchase and installl front D shaft
Clean and paint parts
Install header and do exhaust
Install CB

I got a free band new warn winch, just need to drive to burns to get it.

My D/D car needs some work done so I'm kinda slow pacing it. Still want sliders and need bumpers.

Well got my steering box mounted.. Cut some holes in the frame and tacked in the tubes

Then used my plates from skys to mount the box. I managed to get it tacked into place but ran out of wire lol.

Today was a stupid day, I dropped the grinder and let it casually walk up my thigh, so needless to say my leg hurts like a SOB.

Moved a car out of the shop and got a side pic

That is one of the cleanest first gens i've seen. Great work man. Keep us posted...:awesomework: :awesomework:

So got the shocks mounted, steering box works and is hooked up. Got the driveshaft and fuel tank installed and it runs! Still need to finish brakes to drive it though.

Got everything buttoned up today.
Started finishing the brakes. Driver side hard line was stripped so I had to bend up a new one, Luckily I have some brake line bending experiences from my rc crawler so I was able to do it fairly quickly and molded right along side the wheel well.

Then it was just a matter of hooking up my TG extension lines and bleeding em

Was going to finish welding the front x-member but I was stupid and only bought one round of wire... Buying 2 tomorrow lol.

Going to tighten up the remaining bolts tomorrow, make some leaf clamps, clean my revealed services and hit them with some primer and it'll leave the garage under its own power tomorrow.

Still need to powerwash the under carriage and finish repaint all that. Get front D line, exhuast and header install, Sliders, bob bed, bumpers and offset rims and it'll be pretty much complete.

With the help two fellow wheelers we got the steering pump fixed, just got foamed out but once it settled i was able to finish topping it off with fluid. Perfecto! Then bled the breaks and even the clutch too!

Drove it and it works awesome! Here's some pics, yes its snowing again lol.

Truck for sure needs a bath, trying to get some wheel spacers (rims later) and front driveshaft is in the mail.

Still need to get my exhuast and header installed, sliders, and bumpers. Its finally coming together. I'm like a kid in a candy store right now.
