I am looking at getting a set of the 4xInnovations rock sliders that have the flare on the end...

but my question has to do with which length to get. My truck is a 1992 Ext. Cab, so I know that they recommend the 80" sliders... but I am less concerned with having the bed be protected (will flatbed some day), than I am with having the cab protected. The 68" sliders would put the flare right at the Ext. Cab section of my truck and then stop before the bed. Do you guys think that having the flare at the rear of the cab will help better protect the Ext. Cab section, or should I just get the 80" sliders and keep the flare in front of the rear tire?

I'm only wondering because I want something to help keep trees from crushing the side of my cab on all the tight trails around here...

oh one final question... what is your opinion about those "hoops" people weld to their sliders that stick up and protect the ext. cab part of the truck are they worth it or not?

I am learning to hate my sliders, they hang up on everything and I built them to be as close to the body and stick out minimal as possible. I see that extra thing sticking out as something to get hung up on and wouldn't get them for that reason.

I have yet to crush my cab with mine but the bed is well dented.

I did kind of think that they would get hung up more... but I was thinking that I would rather get hung up on a tree than smash the side of my cab into it

I Built my own for my 4runner. Didnt ever hang up on anything, and worked well for pivoting of things. Saved me from a lot of dents.

I wouldnt buy those ones, they stick out too far IMO.

That's why on my shitbox I built them 3 inches inside the body, they are not meant to keep the dents off, they are meant to pivot on, being really wide like that mean's hanging up since you are sooooo wide.

Starting to think this is what I should have done in the first place.

Hey Masterbater :masturbanana[1]: , I like the sliders you made. Could you give me some dimensions? What size square tubing, what size round tubing, how far is the round tube spaced from the square, and finally how are they attached to the frame?

also, should the sliders reach all the way to the rear tires or should i have them stop at the rear of the cab?

so what's the deal with building a short hoop up off the slider to protect the rear of the cab? is it a good idea or worthless?

2x2 square tubing, 1.5" Round tubing. Spaced about an inch off. They were welded to the frame with 1.5" tube running from the 2x2.

I wouldnt run them from the rear of you front fender all the way to the front of the rear fender. :awesomework:

Cut the rockers out and replace them. Only way to go. If you're worried about dents you better rethink wheeling in the NW.

i'm not worried about dents... the truck already has dents in it. i just want to make that cab last as long as reasonably possible. so i figure a little extra protection won't hurt anything...

All Pro makes a similar product.

I understand that you shouldn't cry about getting a few dents here and there, especially around here. But, I also feel what you are trying to do here. The more you can easily and economically protect your rig, the better. When I see a really nice and clean, and also extremely well-wheeled rig that happens to have adequate protection next to another rig that just looks like a sponge because the owner has a "beat it" mentality, I just give major respect toward the nicer rig. This isn't Plinko..! :redneck:

That's why you don't wheel with me!:fawkdancesmiley: you do realize the amount of new dents you've accumulated while wheeling with me?:redneck: although you have definitly progressed a lot in "aggressiveness" because of it i think:awesomework:
