SB5200 â€“ volunteers Pooling Discover Pass hours

SB5200 would allow spouses to pool their volunteer hours for the purpose of earning a free Discover Pass.

It is very similar to 2013 / 2014 Senate Bill SB5097 and 2015 / 2016 Senate Bill SB5205.
We came very close to passing those two bills.
There was close to zero opposition, it is just not an urgent issue so it keeps getting kicked to the back of the legislative calendar.

SB5200 has a hearing scheduled before the Senate Natural Resources Committee at 1:30pm on 24 January 2017.

If you support spouses being able to pool their volunteer hours for the purpose of earning a Discover Pass now is time encourage the members of the Senate Natural Resources Committee to vote YES on SB5200.

SB5200 has been passed by the House Rules Committee.
It now goes to a vote of the full House of Representatives.
This is the last step before the Governor's desk.

It would be a shame for this legislation be unanimously passed by the Senate four years in a row only to die in the House every time only because the clock ran out.

Agencies such as the DNR, WDFW and State Parks lack the funding to do many of the things they should be doing and this small step toward encouraging volunteerism can only help matters.

Worst case is these cash-strapped agencies get some additional volunteer labor for about a dollar an hour.
