Ongoing debate with my buddy on this, basically a mild build with rv cam, aluminum intake, headers, hei ignition, etc. Pretty much stock internals. Im saying .043-.050, maybe .055 at most. He thinks .060-.075. I run .048 in my sbc with no issues, thought about opening it up to .053 and see what happens though. Any input guys???

From a professional standpoint---.45

Yup, but it also depends on the yr of SBC, the early HEI gap was still spec'd at .035"...It wasn't until about 81 or so that the gap spec was increased to .045"...NOW, get into the Vortec SEFI stuff, and the spec increased to .060"

.045 for me on most normal builds. if its got a super hot coil ill push to .060
i also allways run fine wire plugs, makes it ezer to jump the gap and makes for a fatter arc
