• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

So i bought a 51 Whilly

just got off the phone with Trevor and he said yeah its a common issue with the co i bought my stuff from but an easy fix. i just need 5V signal and the ECU dont care where it comes from so i can tap into any one of the other 5V sources nearby like the TPS or Air temp... ill try tomorrow.

Here's some pinout and voltage info. From what I've read the 16197427 was a replacement for the 16168625 as well as a few others. I also read that the 16197427 has a extra 5 volt reference pin.

Soooo, was it the company that changed that pin's voltage value when they 'reflashed' it? Why the hell would they do that? And you would think if they know about this, they'd fix it... But hey, at least it sounds like it may be fixed! :cheer:

I don't think that's possible. More than likely it's just the harness but still strange.:eeek:

I've heard on these earlier ecm's that some companies can actually mess around in there...If Hip's gone thru the entire harness and found no issues there...the 12V being where a 5V should be has to come from somewhere, hence the beginning of the trainwreck we see going on now....:D

But that doesn't explain two different ECM's with the same issue....

zukev do you have access to the alldata link posted above? if so can you show a pin dia of the ecu? you know what pin number is supposed to be to what?

I do...

But it might start changing again!:haha:
Basically the 5V ref for the MAP, TPS, and EGR are all supplied from connector C210 (blue connector at ECM), pin F14...what's the voltage at the gray wire at the TPS? And if there's any of the original wiring for the EGR, what's the voltage at that gray wire? (these are all pulled from the same pin on the ECM...)

Out of curiosity what company did you use?

fuelinjection.com

co name fuel injection specialties actually great people on the phone.

i looked at my OEM harness and the new harness and they both have the ref sig coming from a different pin than the diag show, both are coming from (edit later)

however it is now spliced together with the TPS ref signal 5V feed.

runs much better but now i have a TPS code and it wont rev. timing mark must be WAY off to even run.

i ran the scan and timing is set at 27Deg?

i have hade the harmonic balancer ring slide on me before so the mark im not so worried about. ill gonna go mechanical on the timing and reverif voltage reaction on the TPS today.

did make some good progress on other things.

like shortened the rear DS by 2".

added one more groove on my AC pully as i cant move it back any farther as it hits my valve cover and needed another 1/8". it kept throwing the belt off at WOT:D

:eeek: I'm fairly sure the EGR is 12 volts on this one....This may be the whole problem. Someone used a schematic based on vehicle year and not based on specific PCM......I dunno. Glad to hear you're getting it figured out Hip!:awesomework:

According to the diagram I originally posted (not the porn that showed up later!:redneck:), there is a 5V ref for the EGR position sensor side of things...And IIRC there is also a 12V source for the function side of these EGR's...

well that problem fixed and now new or other issues that were not as important but are issues still.

this is freaking wierd, and i have to say i hate wires......:

so MAP ref sig is now 5V as is TPS and Temp Sender, however i am still getting incorrect voltage out on the signal wire. the sensers are NOT BAD.

so let take them one at a time.

MAP, 5V in, .1V out only raises to 2.5V max? should be 1V to 4.5V

TPS, 5V in. 0.25V out ad idle and 2.5V at WOT? should be 1.2V 4.5V

if i take both sensers out and place them in a known good runner they perform exactly as per spec. put them back in my rig and voltage is off.

put the known good sensers in my rig and the voltage is off.

:mad::mad:

now get this: if i un plug the TPS and plug in an extra MAP reading atmosphere it runs fine........

maybe bad resistence in the wires?

bad connection on the ECU?

i gave up sunday and worked other things to make some kinda progress.

starting to put some paint on the skins.:redneck:
