You are mistaken it's an older model car transmission pre '66. Actually on the closed axle the only difference between a bus and car are the gear reducers on the end of the axle. It's the same transmission just the ring and pinion is flipped and the gear boxes reduce the gear for the bus. A lot of the drag racers use the closed axle and claim it's stronger to build for the strip, but for off-road it's limited to its suspension travel. Back in the day everyone run these and they are pretty tough but they have a small reverse gear and won't last under a lot of power. Chad

thanks for the info guys. I'm definitely no VW expert. I traded for it a few months back because i have never had one. They are fun but not my cup of tea. I just bought another Rock buggy and so did my brother and now i have nowhere to keep this in out of the weather. Someone needs a rail buggy. Make a cash offer! Need gone asap

The swingaxle tranny came in the cars and bus until 1967 than they went to IRS and the car trannys still look like that but without the tubes sticking out the sides

This is a pic of bus tranny but if the swingaxle is built it will hold that's what most drag racers run by the way nice buggy glws

Thanks for the info. Its a fun lil buggy I just don't have room to keep it. I have 2 other rock crawler buggies and no where to put this one.
I really need to sale or trade for a daily driver vehicle. I'm tired of daily driving my dually.
