I understand that. Not trying to defend anyone here. Just saying I have been on both sides of this coin and it ain't fun. It is too bad that situations like this have to happen. The payment thing is no issue in my eyes. If I had a $500 car and my buddy was down and out without much income, I would sell it on payments.. He could pick the car up when he paid it off though. There is some incentive to actually pay.
