What tube thickness is ideal for a frame build from scratch. Plan on building it out of 2x3 square tube. It will be on rockwells and a less then stock 318. It will be full bodied still but light.

I'd say atleast 1/4" minimum 3/16"

Re: Re: square tube thickness for frame

I'd say 3/16 would be plenty...

My bentfab chassis is 1/8 with a formed 3/16 subframe/link mounts. And has a 3/16 skid under it that wraps around the subframe, so it's 3/8 where rocks will hit.

Oh and another 3/16ths vote!!

Ha it has over 300xxx miles. Its a turd but runs 185 all day long sips gas and is reliable. Low side is always engaged.

The buggy I'm building now I used 1/4" 2x4 on the belly area where links attach and it will take hard rock hits. 3/16" 2x3 for the rest. The weight differnce isn't that much to make it thicker in critical spots.
