Ok so i cant figure this out i start my jeep and the rpm jump to 3 to 4 grand. there is no vacume leaks it has a new intake gasket put a new iac in it i know the intake is on right and tight no leaks there please help im about to take this thing to the dam scrap yard but it does not do it every time i start it just most of the time.

Throttle position sensor is very common failure. There is also a very specific procedure for setting minimum base idle and adjusting the throttle position sensor. Has to be done with DVOM meter or scan tool.

Usually a combo of iac and tps......but also egr valve, vacuum leaks, intake leaks, map sensor......and the list goes on and on..... I have an 88 and every renix motor does it as well. Before throwing any money into it give the throttle body s good cleaning. Good luck :awesomework:
