why are they using astro van boxes

A stock S-10 gear box has the pitman arm pointing to the back. For a solid axle swap you have to put on a Astro box. If you run the stock one and just spin the pitman around it'll steer backwards. Left=Right Right=Left. The Astro box is geared correctly for the axle to be in front of the steering gear box.
