The newest tow rig....

we had one of our acts drop off an f150 couple weeks ago to have plugs done, 1 snaped in the head.... glad it wasnt me..... 5 hours to extract the tip.. .lol

You're probably talking about a 3valve design 5.4L, the ones with the 2 piece plugs...I've done plenty of those too; And yeah, the first one I did that broke sucked...Last one I did was a 6.8L, snapped 8 of 10 off, but using the special extractor tool I was able to still have the whole job done in 6hrs...

yha, were a diesel shop and dont see many gassers.... monday i pointed the kit out to that tech while on the tool truck and he snatched it up any ways...:haha:

Worked on the Expo for an hour or 2 tonight with TJ... got it all torn apart.. not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Hope to get all new plugs, boots, and 2 coil packs in town tomorrow and get it put back together.

Oh, and found 1 broken injector on cyl #1... so I hope to find a new injector too... The broken one still works (apparently) but I am not putting this back together with a broken injector

She is all buttoned up and seems to run just fine.. makes me feel better about bringing a rig home that runs like ****! Replaced all plugs w/ NGK Iridium units, all new plug boots, 2 new coil packs, 1 new injector, and a fresh oil change and air filter. Then she got a rub job, and a fresh wax job. Big thanks to TJMP111 for coming and helping me with working on this...!!!

Not sure what the big deal is... doing plugs on this isn't THAT big of a deal. Its not a party by any means, but it isn't as nightmarish as people make it out to be. That said, I would be perfectly happy if I don't have to do it again :D

Kind of like that red Jeep GC you brought home? :fawkdancesmiley:

No ... That didn't run when I brought it home ... And I sold it for 4 times what I paid for it, after I took the nice CD player out of it and put 0 dollars into it :awesomework:

I had a 97' F150 4x4 with the 5.4 and it towed well for what it was. Mine had a missfire too when I got it, 140K on the original plugs. Then had to replace 3 coils in over the next 2 years. I didnt think it was to hard either, I just loosened the fuel rai and worked around it. I put 8K loaded miles on it. got 9-12 mpg towing. My only problems were the brakes marginal even with a controller, and the tranny overheating (mine had the extra cooler too). Finally got rid of it at 160K because the tranny was going soft and the piston slap was getting loud. You should be happy with the exp for occasional towing.

Havent done much with it.... Seems to run great, has good power, doesn't make any weird noises... except for those coming from the rear track bar bushings, and the front wheel bearings.

I didn't notice the wheel bearings until I put these used (BALD) 285/75R16's on some 16x10 Weld wheels on that I picked up for CHEAP...

Seems the extra offset of the wheels and the bigger tires made me go...

"what the **** is that" on the way home from the tire store...

So 1 is REALLY bad, and the other seems fine, but if I am going to do it I might as well just do them both. Turns out you cant buy wheel bearings for these, you have to replace the entire wheel bearing / hub / whatchamacallit assembly

It has just been sitting, but in the next few weeks, I will get the parts and get her fixed.
