What a ****ing scam. Don't have a card? No problem we'll let ya on the port to pick up your load of frozen food but we'll baby sit you the whole time and charge you for it.

Just another freedom killing tactic to control us in the name of safety. Somedays I hate this job and its not the jobs fault its the bull**** I gotta go through just to do my job.

Its not just for truck drivers ya gotta have a Transportation Workers Identification Card to get on the ports. Its basically a real ID card, you have to get a background check and pay a bunch of fees etc. It is worthless in the real world but the unions love it and the .gov makes it.

Hey now! You might be Osama in disguise. Can't be too careful.

(ummmm..... why not use your CDL.... isn't that valid ID?)

i got mine $132.50, cummins paid for it though! yea the ports are bullshirt work down there quite a bit. there all lazy ****s too.

CDL got me in the gate, needed an escort to the building then had to sit in the waiting room while they loaded the trailer. Wasn't allowed back to my truck "for security reasons" :eeek:

Apparently I was supposed to pay a dock fee and be escorted out but I slammed my doors and skinned out before they got to me. :redneck:

By all rights I could get a card there is nothing in my past to prevent it but I don't go to the ports often and I refuse to jump through their hoops, ****'m.

Im with you Trashy. Its a bull**** money grab in the name of "Safety". Kiss my ass. Its another bull**** hoop for you me and Joe Average to jump through so people 'feel' safe.

I miss the days when it only cost me 50 or 60 bucks to be a trucker. Nowadays, I need to pay out the nose for BS background checks just to make a living.

Hazmat certification is another racket. TSA does the background checks and biometrics for haz and TWIC but I believe one still needs to pay for both separately.

I'm sure trucking isn't the only industry with BS regulation (taxes).

Why does the union love it? Which union?:eeek:

The funny part is the cards are suposed to be good in other places but very few places even know what they look like.

Whatsnot for a union to love about it? Its just another way for them to have control over people and make a few more dollars off of those that don't have the documentation they do.

Last I knew it was the teamsters that pretty much run all the ports in the US.

From what I'm reading the union has nothing to do with it, makes no money off of it, has no control of it, doesn't regulate it........

TSA/.gov and unions scratching each others back. .gov makes, regulates and issues it so the union requires it for employment.

The union makes $ off of people NOT having a card and being charged a dock fee. At least thats how I understand it.

I just can't believe they check to see if you're here legally or not ..............I thought that was discrimmination - what are the poor "undocumented workers" supposed to do

the union i am in gets nothing out of it and i am sure others are the same. when these first came out they shelled out alot of money so the members who were working where they needed them could continue working. the last time i checked manual labor unions only require a deploma or GED to join. so you get alot of members with not the best of backgrounds, so i dont see how this helps them at all.

Oh gawd this could be as fun as listening to whitetrash and binder talking about horsepower and torque.:haha:

I knew it--its the evil Unions---thought so :hi:

In this case I blame the politicians in the Bush administration that did the bidding of pussified namby pamby citizens that were all too happy to trade freedom for a false sense of security.

I would be HIGHLY suprised if the union makes a penney off of this anywhere. Do you really think the government would let people not pay them by not buying a card but pay someone else instead?.....Uncle sam makes the money for sure.

The twic system is a ****in joke! Half the time you just flash it at security and they don't even look at it. If you pull into the staging lot at t18 in Seattle after hours you don't have to show it until security comes around in the morning. They usually miss half the drivers there. At the cruise terminals you can just pay a fee and they'll let you in. It's just another way to get more money from us truckers.

From what I remember about when they started this crap the logistics arround simply getting one were a joke. One office for a HUGE area with people who had no idea what they were doing. I know it took forever for my dad to get his since he wanted to make money instead of wait in their office for days on end for someone to figure their **** out.

Railroad has to have them to not just you poor :booo: truckers :corn:

I got mine way before you HAD to have them. I got mine in 2 weeks. My buddy went to get his the beginning of last year and it took them almost 2 months because they were so back logged.

Shell refinery at March Point requires everyone through the gate to have one, or you have to have a babysitter. They can't let you out of their sight--not even to use bathroom!

Funny thing is, they don't have a scanner at the gate to make sure you have a twic...the operators are simply required to check 5 people per day to make sure they have their twic on 'em.

That covers from 0600 'til about 0610....

I was told you can flash it at the airport to expedite the security hassle...shoulda seen the look on their face. "What's that!?!???"
