Good Day!!! Rained on us abit in the am, but was otherwise a nice day....got all the critical areas taken care of, or a good start on a permanent repair..
Was good to meet a couple new faces (Boardbysled (NO! Rock-rolling is NOT fun!:fawkdancesmiley:, Corinator , and Oil Can)!!! Thanks for all your help!
One thing I noticed while out and about, and was brought up from the last weekend was, there are a couple rogue trails that have been punched in; one on Lower Mainline trail, at the rooty section below the easy valley connector, and another, which used to be part of Expressway, but has been long since closed (for well over 10 yrs...); These kinds of things really need to stop, as it just makes it more difficult for everyone involved up there to make any headway on getting anything added, or mitigated to our advantage....Not to mention there isn't alot of money available to perform any repairs/closure of illegal trails by the DNR; they're already spread thin enough as it stands!!!
PLEASE stay on existing open trails!!!!!!! Come out and lend a hand in the future....:awesomework:

:beer:its fun to watch though!!:beer:think everyone had a good time and met some new faces...ur right about the trails gettin punched though..bad juju!!!!!!!:flipoff:

Definitely!:haha: Naw it was good times... Little ribbin' here. little ribbin' there...
Yer, YJ seems to work quite well! NOW GO GET SOME PICS UP IN YER INTRO THREAD NOOB!!!:haha:

:cool:gonna have to excuse me.. im computarded a little:looser:gettin the hang of it though......not bad for leafs eh!!

Good to hear guys. I hope to be up there once again on next Saturday, shovel and gloves in hand. :awesomework:

Any word if there will be a "work" party next sat? I could swear that I saw it posted up for the 29th... but now nothing. If not, anyone wanna head up with me?

There was talk of Len possibly heading up...If more concrete plans are made, you'll all know:awesomework:

Good day indeed, left the parkin lot ~9am and got back to the parkin lot ~9pm. Lots of good work done, hopefully DOE is happy.:awesomework: I think me an Japerry drove every logging road at Walker looking for Money and Mark M, never did catch up to them though:redneck:

Good job volunteers!!!:cheer:

I have a specific route I like to wheel at Walker......and we do it FAST.:D And Mark's Toyota actually didn't break this time.:redneck:

THANK YOU ALL who came out!
Andy, Kevin, Jacob, Jim P, Cory, and Chris.

We took at look at the 7 issues identified in this thread: http://nw-wheelers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51919

1) Water bars and stream crossing. DNR had already put up rocks and items to block off access to upper mainline. Fixed..

2) Stream crossing with silt fencing... Elyse already fixed this issue, and nothing really changed since last week. We'll have to keep an eye on it.

3) Stream crossing on upper mainline past the edge of the clear cut (before split to Expressway). We ditched out the retaining pond with the water and placed a hay bail. We'll need to come back and place rock to restore the side of the road

4) Missing berm, sediment delivery issue on expressway. We created a new berm using a rouge log on the trail. See youtube video:

We will need an excavator up there someday to create a larger water bar, but this fixes the immediate delivery issue.

5) Upper expressway, creek crossing delivery. We added a straw bail and ditched out the silt fencing so water wouldn't pool. Also added a waterbar up the grade so water would stop flowing the stream crossing.

6) Upper expressway, 'muddy area'. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos of the restoration work. However, we added straw bails and ditched out the water delivery to redirect it away from the stream. We then cut out ditches from the puddles retaining water to simulate a massive rain storm event. For the most part our ditching held, and minimal sediment was delivered. We should place a waterbar or culvert up the trail to keep water from running into this basin. (as Jim suggested)

7) Upper mainline, near the mini rock garden. While we will need to get rock and an excavator to re-grade this portion of the trail, we did some immediate fixes that should hold for the summer. Including: repairing missing road near the creek culvert, adding ditching to redirect the water away from the stream, and re-digging the ditching on the other side to keep water off of the road.

Other tidbits....

The old expressway/jeep cross connector now has water flowing down it. I'll be interested to see if DOE considers it a stream or not:

Unfortunately, water is seeping through the clay onto the bedrock. It'd be awesome if we could re-direct this flow somewhere else, as this would be a good section of trail to get back.

Also, people are making short cuts on lower mainline:

blocking access has been unsuccessful. Personally, I think we should figure out a way to harden one of the bypasses so we don't fight the system. But others disagree. We'll see what DNR thinks about it.

Lastly, on a sorta sad but funny note.. someone is tagging "free reiter" around Walker Valley. heh.

Thanks again to all who came out. You've made a HUGE difference in regards to our tour with DOE and showing the public that we care about our lands and can respond quickly when issues arise.

Nice documentation Jakob, thanks for bein the camera guy:flipoff: That video makes rock rollin look soooo fun:fawkdancesmiley::haha: It will be fun to see how that water bar we put in evolves.:awesomework:

There was quite a bit of that Free Rieter taggin around, I found some after I left the parkin lot just past the second gatekeeper on some big culverts, I think its hilarious:haha:

Did you get a copy of that letter yet Jakob?

Also, did anyone get a volunteer hour sheet filled out?

Just got a response from DNR last night, they said they sent out certified mail yesterday so I should see it today. As soon as I get it, it'll be scanned up and posted for all to see :D
