Hardline Crawlers - Rock Bouncer Builds, Tech & Off-Road Trail Talk

Help Support Hardline Crawlers:

My first car is a 1964 SS Chevelle, which was bought by my uncle in 1964, sat in a garage after he dies in the late 70's, when I was old enough to legally own a car (senior year in high school) I purchased the car from my aunt.

I made payments to her of a total of $40 and come xmas time she gave it to me. It has never been smashed up, no holes in it the factory didn't put in, and I have everything stock that came with it (engine ,tranny). I changed the engine to a crazy built 350 chev/TH350 combo... broke a driveline or two hitting second.

I had to put that rare rear end setup to the test.. a factory 12bolt posi...:cheer:

so I still own this car today, it is waiting for my shop to be finished so I can fully restore it from the frame up... since then I have owned 4 other 64 SS chevelles and one 66...

The cops loved me... my pocket book hated me... got myself into a lot of fun, and a lot of trouble in those days (3 page record in 30 days:mad: )

I still occasionally toss in a battery and fire the beast up just to hear the whine of the gear-drive:masturbanana[1]:

First car was a 1991 Geo Metro. Ran it for a couple years, then traded up to a 1996 Geo Metro that I DD'ed for 8 years until I sold it a few weeks ago. :(

Very cool dad had a 67 SS 396 most of my life and that thing was crazy. I would say the Chevelle runs a very close second to camaro's for me. Just something about that cool low end rumble that just can't be replaced by these ricer's or much of anything else.

1969 f100.....it was orange, and drove like a tank....still sitting at my uncles farm in SD....

got the 65 scout at 14 for 200 bucks, did a bunch of work to it with my dad, got a 72 blazer at 15 for 250 bucks, then when i turned 16 i got the mint 85 toyota for a grand, which i wheel to this day.

1987 toyota cressida. man, i beat the piss out of that car. burnouts, drifts, donuts, bottomed out on the oil pan and tranny pan a couple of times (could be why they started to leak :redneck:). burned oil like crazy, weak springs meant it hit the rear bumpstops every time i dropped the hammer, i took a lot of adolescent aggression out on that car. made it from lake stevens to monroe in just under 7 minutes one night. that was kinda scary, especially after the brake fluid started boiling :haha:. after about 8 months and 24k miles (236k on the clock), it finally spun a bearng (i usially only added oil when i started to hear it knocking). i drove it 7 miles to home like that, parked it, then 3 months later, went out, jumped it, and drove it onto a trailer, to be delivered to some little ricer stoner kid who wanted some body parts.

shortly before it died, i bought my truck. actually, the day it died was the day we finished installing the new engine in my truck.

My first vehicle was a '79 (IIRC) Ford Courior. What a piece of ****. The only thing ****tier than that truck was the way I abused it. I was such a dumb ass teenager

Hey my first rig was a 74 Ford Courior but I loved it. Then I traded it for a 1975 Chevy camaro:looser: but it was fast.

I inherited a 74 Mercury Comet with an anemic 302 and 3-on-the-tree. The frame was rusted out in the rear, so the shackles were just floating in the dead space and the leaf springs just slid on the bottom of the frame. But it was faster than the next car I inherited - my grandma's 77 Mercury Monarch with an even worse 302 and automatic. It was super clean though and I actually built my first stereo sytem in that car. House speakers :haha:

The first car I bought was an 84 Buick Century. I paid $300 for it in 1993 and it looked like new. But the steering rack had a major leak, so the guy I bought it from just cut the belt to the PS pump. The motor mounts were trashed so the CV joints rubbed on the frame rails when I mashed the pedal. But, it was a 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games Program car, so it had gold Olympic symbols on the fenders and embroidered all over the place. I fell asleep and rolled it in Idaho on my way to college... :looser:

Another "Wish I wouldnt have sold it" post. Bought it when I was 19.
68 Firebird, black ext, white int, slotted alum mags. Put a Hearst shifter in it and waxed every week.
Babe magnet and I was living in Huntington Beach at the time. Oh, the memories:masturbanana[1]:

'60 Rambler station wagon with a 1-barrel flat head 6, what a great party car in high school :cheer:

my first rig was a 75 toyota land crusier... hella old school 350 with a rochester carb on it... hahaha i had it in high school and i tried to power brake it in my buddies driveway on pavement and i twisted the transfer case in half... HAHAHAH what a :looser:

but i still have it and im slowly trying to build it into a nice pavement pounder............... on 38's

The first I owned was a 1932 LaSalle sedan. My brother and I did everything to it we could without spending any money, but never got it running. Mom finally gave us the choice of finding a buyer or she was going to put it in the backyard and plant geraniums in it.

My first operable (barely) vehicle was a 1960 Peugeot 403, the sedan version of Columbo's car. Had some interesting design features, but they were too cheap to hire the engineer to make everything work together. It was a hemi-headed 4, but the valve train was all bronze, so nothing would hold a torque. The valves had to be adjusted cold, so I spent a lot of early mornings adjusting valves.

Drove it for 3 years in college and then parked it when I graduated. Mom sold it for me when I was in the service. She told the kid he could have it for $50 if it started, $25 if it didn't.

Contrary to a lot of you, I don't miss a thing about that POS.

I'm in the same boat. I haven't regretted getting rid of a single vehicle I've owned.

'74 Comet
'77 Monarch
'84 Century
'84 Escort
'87 Mirage
'94 Sentra
'64 FJ40 (still got it)
'94 Saturn
'99 Malibu
'89 Integra
'92 Cherokee
'96 Suburban
'98 Montero (still got it)
'89 Kawasaki KDX (still got it)
'83 CB550SC Nighthawk (still got it)
'71 Chev K20 (still got it)
'81 Monte Carlo (engine donor)

The problem is that I keep finding ones I like and want to keep. The garage and driveway are full already and there may be a new daily driver coming soon...

78 Chevy Malibu Landau coupe with wire hubcaps. Soon after swapped out for Rally wheels with RWL tires. That was a comfy car. Wish I never sold it and bought that POS 88 Beretta GT. Traded the Beretta to a friend for an 84 Toyota van. THAT was a cool ride. It still lives in the family today with a bajillion miles on the clock, dents in every body panel, and most of the movable parts have been jerry-rigged.

The cars I had in Japan were the best. First was a 95ish Toyota Carina ED sports sedan with a 2.0 and 5speed. Threw some nice rims on it and loved it. Then got rear-ended by some idiot security guy. Took the insurance settlement and bought a 92 Nissan Skyline GTSt Type-M. 2.0L 24 valve straight six (RB20DET), single turbo, auto:p, limited slip rear, 4.30 gears. Forget what the redline was, like 8000 or something like that. That was the coolest car I will probably ever own. Burnouts, drifts, flat plain craziness. Power-braking was fun.

'74 Courior > 3 '79 Couriors. I'd buy one in a heart beat if a decent one appeared for sale. I love the latch thingies on the tail gate :redneck:

Not that I would have appreciated even a '74 when I was 18. I was seriously a punk. Probly would have really pissed me off actually, mine had a 2.3 Pinto motor, the earlier ones only came with the uber lame Mazda 1.8.

Mmm, I'm sure I would have slam shifted it until all four pistons poured out of the drain plug with a "gllluuuuuuuuuuuggg".

Mine was a 77 Ford Courier, when I bought it a dog came w/ it:redneck: neither worked out for long:mad: To be 15 again..........

mine is the subaru, it was stock and mint when i got it. it's seen better days, and about to be for sale next month.

My first vehicle was a '74 VW Bug. Great transportatoin, every time I turned the key it started, never failed me, not once. Sure it was slow has hell, the heat or lack thereof was frustrating, bu tI got used to scraping frost and ice off the inside of the windshield.

I would definitely like to get my first car back. Not too many people have even heard of a Mustang GT Turbo, they've only heard of the SVO. And luckily I sold it to my cousin and he's still got it. So I'll get it back :cheer:
