The dogs will be helping to protect them once outside since we're free ranging them during the day. The cats are indoor so their intentions will soon be moot. However, I have a feeling these birds will be able to kick the **** out of our cats anyways :haha:

we've got 23 laying hens and our healer herds them all day! she won't let them in the garden, on the porch or in the road:awesomework:

Like you say, the dog should be fine. Most of them are I think.

My neighbor has chickens, and their Labrador leaves them alone. But whenever one of their chickens get in my yard my dogs kill em'. I used to have chickens too, and I could never get them to leave them alone.

oh yeah, now that I am officially settled in here, and have a place to live etc... next weekend I get my car... soo.... I think I just have to come up for the weekend and inspect these little chicks up close! ;)

Our dogs have been pretty gentle, especially when we've introduced them. I do worry a bit about our neighbor's dogs though. Sometimes they come through the yard whenever they've gotten out. No telling how they're temperament is to "new things".

Will be cooped at night for sure. Time will tell during the day I suppose. We'll secure them in a run if we end up having too many taken. But would prefer highly to free range. Prolly be getting guinea fowl too here shortly, which I understand make better attack birds.
