I have been working on this for about a year now and haven't been on this site for quite some time. I picked up a bone stock 1995 YJ with a 2.5L and auto trans. I decided to build this as light and low as possible. Drivetrain will remain the same but the NP231 has been tossed in favor of an Atlas 4.3. Axles are Diamond housings with Toyota mini truck internals. 5.29 R/P, Detroit front and spool rear. RCV axles/Birfields and the rear is a full float utilizing mini truck spindles and hubs. I am cutting weight where ever possible, tailgate was tossed and a sheet of aluminum was bent to fit. Hood and fenders tossed and replaced with a Chris Durham fiberglass hood. Front frame section cut off and replaced with 1.75" .120 DOM. Motobilt four link setup with 14" Fox coilovers. Some photos for your viewing pleasure...

That's gonna be a great rig! I'd like to see you throw a turbo on it though. Which tires are those...obviously SX's, but what size?

Chris' hoods are great looking too...good work using lighter parts where you could. Get it finished up and throw it on the scales!

Thanks .... finding time to work on it lately has been difficult but hopefully I can get back to it soon.

Found some time to put some work in on the Jeep...hope to have the front end sitting on its own weight by next weekend.

After talking with Ryan @ Accutune, he did some valving changes to the shocks and the fronts are 80# uppers 200# lowers and the rears will 80# uppers and 175# lowers.

Coming along nicely. I think it's cool your keeping the 2.5L.
Also can't wait to see the hood installed. I am thinking about ordering a CD hood this fall.

Well, seems something fell off :flipoff1:

Finally got my idea together for the rear frame portion and spent yesterday mocking it up. Went with 4x4 Outlet (small garage based company) out of California for the bracket that would make the transition width wise in order to get the frame rails under the tub. Debated between using 1.75" .120 DOM or 2"x3" .120 rectangular and decided to go with the 2"x3" route. If all goes to plan, I will get this all welded up by the end of this Saturday and hopefully soon this will be sitting on it's own weight.

Still need to cap the ends of the rear cross member, add a support piece to the rear hoop and get the body mount plates attached but the big part is done...few more photos

Few photos of the completed rear frame section. The rear cross member was changed out to a narrower width and the hoop (for lack of a better term) was internally sleeved with an 18" piece of 1.5" .250 wall to give it some strength in the event it takes a hard hit, either by a dumbass driver or my 'drive by brail" technique that sometime occurs... laughing1. The cross member underneath is 1.75" .120 wall DOM.
