So at what point do you consider a rig a BUGGY? Does a rig with a stockish frame and tube considered a buggy?

Looking over craigslist ads and you see the term "buggy" used alot and I think its over used.

To be a buggy represents a COMPLETE hand made rig...

Open wheels with no fenders could be one description. Made from a shoping cart? I think most wheelers would consider a ground up build from tube to be a buggy. Tube fab construction with enclosed wheels and then I think you have a car.

Anything with a hand fabbed frame and tube "cage"....I consider f toy's truck's as they use factory frames. There are a lot of what I consider buggies out there that were built to '06 and earlier UROC and WEROCK spec that were required to use rectangular frames (a lot of guy's used a few feet of factory frame rail in the front for various reasons) to fit inside of Pro Mod and Legends rules.

If its still hase any 'factory' frame, then NOT "buggy", its a Truggy. If its its got an orginal OEM[ish] firewall.

Rec or square tube that came from the steel yard as the base I would still consider a Buggy, provided the rest of the truck is a jungle-gym of course :D

Basically, if it started as something from the factory, and then was modded to hell = Truggy, if it started from the ground up with a majority of the parts hand-fabbed = Buggy.

*I* would consider a F-Toy a Truggy, or a Buggy watanabe :fawkdancesmiley:

Binder also talked about seating position as well. And thats not a bad way to help with definitions. A low, legs mostly strait seating position is common for a Buggy, retaining a mostly up-right, legs bent position is usually a sign of a Truggy.

As for Craig's List.... :rolleyes: Look at how many rolling abortions, or mild-wheeler POS's are listed as "Rock Crawlers" :shaking:

I was going to say that it has to have a tube frame but you can now buy tube frames to replace your stock CJ, YJ or TJ frame.

My Jeep has a custom '1 off' frame from AFW. The firewall is part of the aftermarket aluminum tub. It was purpose built. EVERYTHING is custom but it's still a Jeep and not a buggy.

I don't know how to perfectly descibe a buggy but I know them when I see 'em.:awesomework:

Buggy = Unitube

Once a Jeep. Always a Jeep.
Once a Toyota. Always a Toyota.
Especially if you use either the frame, or the firewall.
If you start with a frame, aftermarket or factory, then it's not a buggy.

A buggy is the vitual equivalent of a unibody car. Only, instead of the body providing structural strength, the 'body' is the tubes. Ergo, it's a uni-tube creation. No frame. No body. Build completely and entirely of tubes. The motor, axles, suspension, seats, and 'body panels' are all secured to the uni-tube.
