Evans creek CLOSURE

Heresay (cause I didn't get it first hand) is that the USFS didn't get much objection when they requested input so they figured that no one had objections to their plan, including the seasonal closure.

when did they request input?

I have been at Evans severall times and never once seen it on the board at the lots or campgrounds?

I am a user of that trail system and I did not see a notice for any of the users to see?
When the ranger came through to check our passes he never said they were lookn for input?
When I bought my pass form the bodega in wilkeson I didnt see anything in the windows of the closed ranger station that doesnt even sell passes for up there anymore.

Where was it publicized so the public/users could see it?

It amazes me. But its our fault for not sending imaginary input to an imaginary system.

If the WTF members would like to go another direction they will let the President (ME) and or vise president( Richie)know.. They did have a teenager up there giving surveys, and the ranger told me about it. I think it is bullshit that it is happening. I really think that the info was not passed thru W.O.W and the P.N.W.4.W.D.A to the majority of wheelers. But also if you are not a member of one of those org. than there is no garuntee you will get the info.

How would you suggest other than the public meetings, communicating with the PNW4WDA and the internet, that they get the word out to people?

the FS relys on the PNW to get the word out.

GUESS WHAT? NOBODY LISTENS TO THE PNW

Aparently the PNW is doing a great job of promoting input.

God forbid someone send in input that doesnt jive with the PNWs agenda.

I and others are not PNW members and dont plan to be anytime soon.

The FS needs to do a better job of public interactions and communicating with its users, not just passing the buck onto the PNW. We all know how well the PNW handles things.

Those are all good places where they could have doen a better job at getting the word out. The word was put out to all the clubs and individuals that are part of the PNW4WDA, I know that for sure. I saw a number of posts on various boards with details about the plan and repeated encouragement to comment so that they have more user input.

If people want to be informed they also need to SEEK information not just expect it to drop into their lap. You can't blame the USFS or DNR for not getting the word to everyone if people choose to live their lives like hermits and not communicate with the world. However, it would be a good idea for YOU to pass on your suggestions to the USFS so that in the future they include those avenues for their communication.

All great and this is what I would suggest....Don't blame the closure on people for not writing comments. It's closed for a reason and it sounds like the reason is probably erosion issues. Blaming the closure on lack of comment makes it sound like it's a punishment for not taking action.
Again I ask, what comment written what number of times would have kept Evans open?

So You are sure this word was put out to all the clubs in the pnw? Funny because our club heard nothing about it and we are long standing members of the pnw. I contacted all of our members yesterday we all thought it was just as normal campground closure.

dont mean to hi-jack this thread, but DAMN GIBBY!!! seems like your saying its wrong that people dont get online... not everybody can afford the innerweb or even know how to... lots of wheelers that dont go online are blue collar construction workers that can barely read...

I dont give a rats ass about LOOKING for info. It SHOULD be where the users are.

You homeschool your kids, do you hide the rules and homework form them and tell them to get involved and find the work. When they dont do you tell them its their fault for not finding the work that was assigned?

As part of the meeting minutes it would have been broadcast via the monthly newsletter (the Tripower). BLAST is part of Region 2 so your club representative at the meetings would have had the info.

Not saying that they couldn't do better but the information was presented as was the request for input. The land chair for that particular ORV park doesn't do a good job at getting the word out, but no seems to want to take on his position. I'm not saying that he doesn't work hard and do a good job working with the USFS, he just will not utilize the internet as a form of communication.

Its crazy, more mudflap tickets have been handed out at evans than info have.

Maybe he could post it on the signs where the rules are.

He is in the PNW he lets the pnw know what is going on he has put alot of time and work in at evans for a very long time.The only way you are guranteed to know what is going is if you attend the meetings.

I'm not going to pick on him, Pokey and I have run circles around this in the past. But until someone steps up to take on his role it's just not going to happen.
We don't miss too much though as Pokey does his best to make up for this gap in communication.
Some PNW land people believe that their responsibility is to report to the clubs and association that they represent and that putting stuff out on the internet for "JOE PUBLIC" user is not their responsibility. I happen to disagree with this but Pokey and Joe are the only two that I'm familiar with that do a good job and getting info out to JOE PUBLIC. If JOE PUBLIC wants to know what's going on, we did get the TRIPOWER put online so that anyone can see it and it's on the front counter of most 4x4 shops for free.
I can say that I understand their hesitation because when I had the Elbe position I went overboard trying to communicate and was ripped apart by people making assumptions that were based on incorrect info and outright lies. It's easy to make people gunshy.
