Hardline Crawlers - Rock Bouncer Builds, Tech & Off-Road Trail Talk

Help Support Hardline Crawlers:

We are going to see radiation. low levels, and they won't effect us much in the near future, who knows about the long term effects to us from this disaster.

This one event isn't really a big deal for us here, true.

It's about the cumulative effect of Chyrnobyl, Fukushima, Hanford, Three mile island, Deepwater Horizon, Exxon Valdez, PCB's, etc, etc.

At what point does the last piece of straw fall?

I'm not a greenie, not even close but come on !!!! Humans are stupid.

Maybe the same amount we get on a flight from here to NY.

Hippies eschew technology.

That's Luddites. Hippies want low energy consumption like LED lights and cloth diapers.

I am thinking Alaska is next and then the western US california? The big ones have been working there way around the ring of fire.

Alaska has had some big ones in the past couple years.

Here is where I sit. We all copy and paste these links blindly. I actually do read them and many many more.... I'm worried that what is told is actually the tip of the iceburg in just about any situation. This one being no exception.

Radiation is coming. Period. How much and how it will effect us here in Washington is unknown. There is nothing I can do about it either. That's why this kind of stuff pisses me off so much. Other people make too damn many decisions that effect me GREATLY and I have no power to even kinda stop them. :booo:

"PLUME OF RADIATION

Gregory Jaczko, the top U.S. nuclear regulator, cast doubt on efforts to cool overheating reactors, saying workers may be hit with "lethal doses" of radiation.

"It would be very difficult for emergency workers to get near the reactors," Jaczko said.

A United Nations forecast projects the radioactive plume from the Fukushima facility would reach the Aleutian Islands on Thursday and hit Southern California late on Friday, The New York Times reported."

How many people died from Hanford and Three mile island, I don't read the media on these things, I read what experts write, like the MIT report, Media is all about the end of the world. Fear sells and fear is what they will cause, sure there are things that are possible, a meteor hitting the Earth is possible, but hysteria will help no one, and after reading what the nuclear experts are saying, I'm not worried.

Nuclear power, like everything else is still in the learning stage, the navy has had nuclear power for decades with no problems, it's a great idea, and will be the future of energy once the fossil fuels are gone. We need to learn from these mistakes and correct them, not go off half cocked and outlaw everything, we are way too far from Japan to see any fallout at all.

Maybe the same amount we get on a flight from here to NY.

Or xrays, people get overwhelmed by all the false info on radiation, when I took my radiation course I was amazed at the rems people get just by living close to granite, matter of fact, most granite workers are exposed to more rems than most nuclear workers...got granite countertops, you better put lead on the junk :haha:

So can any type of rock from what I am reading. Pretty interesting reading...

Well they say no risk at this time, lets see what they next week or next month when this **** is still spewing out radiation.

with radiation its relevance is in magnitude. something most often left out of the story eventhough it is a critical part of what happened.

people did dye from Hanford. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2002281825_downwinder20m.html

because the containment vessal is ruptured this is not anything like TMI.
but approaching Chernobyl.

Do you think windmills are the future, or covering the entire state of Arizona in solar panels? :corn:
Panels are definitely part of the future, and wind turbines in some places. We wouldn't have to cover even a smallish fraction of the state of Arizona :flipoff:

Bio and synth fuels are also part of the future. I would like to sell my garbage to the local gasification plant :D

Speaking of windmills, my friend just finished his new home and put in some wind spikes. They generate 2400 watts in a 6mph wind. You can see them on the far right of this pic, they look like power poles.

well perhaps not to all of that sounds real

wind generators generate about 5% of their rated power at 6mph windspeed , 20% at about 15mph and 100% at 30mph.

and a 48000 watt would be crazy overkill.

I'm confused.

Mike, Jaydog, and Bill.

Are you arguing that artificial human caused radiation is good? ok? or acceptable?

Obviously everything is a about levels. Any isotope decays and gives off some type of radiation. Different types of radiation cause different things to happen, and our bodies also handle each situation differently. Potassium decay is ok and our bodies deal with it for the most part as an example.

What do you think the three of you will eventually die of?

#1 is Heart Disease usually caused by obesity.
#2 is Cancer. Do you know what causes Cancer?

Damaged DNA from Decaying isotopes !!!

Where did I state any form of radiation is good? The simple fact that lots of things from the ground omit radiation. I also know there are different forms but I haven't had the time to research that (EPA hasn't done many studies on that type--just its there).

You don't have to lecture me on cancer--know plenty about that..

carcinogenic chemicals are responsible for most cancer not radiation. true potassium and corbon and even naturally occurring hydrogen isotopes have radiation its not enough to worry about. if you want to worry about something look in your garage for cloro-hydrocarbon chemicals.

This is getting into a whole nother debate I simply haven't the time for.......

Carcinogenic= Cancer causing or inducing

Cancer is caused by Damaged DNA. Or more importantly damaged DNA that is coppied instead of being destroyed by our bodies.

I have read study after study that says it's from isotope decay. Chemicals which contain carbon, burnt carbon like used oil, radiation, there are a ton of different ways this occurs.

And Mike I'm not lecturing you about cancer. I would assume you've done some reading upon the subject seeing as how your dad is stricken with it. As for radiation, it seems to me you have made it look by your posts that you don't think the Japanese disaster is that big of a deal. You of course were lumped into a group with other people and their comments about radiation as well.

I would think any person would come to the conclusion after a bit of thought that almost any radiation of this type is a bad thing. Wheather it's from a nuclear disaster, microwaves, X-rays, plane flights, etc. The best course of action it would seem would be to limit these things as much as possible.

no?

no?

I have and I still feel we are in no danger. Thats just my opinion.

There are many things in our life we have no control over..

No, I'm saying that nuclear power is clean, reliable and safe, if done right, Japans big problem is that these are older units, they are the boil method, also part of the problem are the spent rods that were outside in a pool and they had yet to dispose of them.

I will die from lack of oxygen to the brain, just like everyone else :redneck:

Life is terminal, nobody gets out alive :awesomework:

They actually don't dispose of them they recycle like 95% of the used rods.. One thing are have us beat on..

See that's what I was saying. And I'm sure a lot of people here and around the world think the same as you.

"We are in no danger"

I can totally agree with a statement like "we are in very little danger, or it will be long term effects felt"

But "No danger" is an absolute falsehood.

I know I'm somewhat splitting hairs here but they are very important radioactive hairs.

:redneck:
Odie please, I mean no disrespect to your lack of hairs

I agree, if we lived in a perfect teddy bear gumdrop world. Unfortunatly things go wrong, and sometimes people do things on purpose to make things go wrong.

As for getting out alive ya  everyone's gunna die.

Consider this.
If the earthquake had broken a large dam and flooded Tokyo killing thousands then everyone would be crying for the removal of dams. Everything has risks we just need to make them as small as possible and learn from the mistakes.

I've knowingly polluted my body with mass amounts of alcohol, tobacco, and numerous toxic chemicals/fumes over my lifetime. Getting all worried about the small chance of toxic radiation would be kind of ironic.
