4th Annual Twin Lakes (Whatcom Co.) Snow Run!

Talked to the FS today. Sadly, even making it an event cannot get us to include ORV tabs for the road.

Interestingly, the snowmobiles we saw on that road are also technically 'illegal' to operate as well, since Twin Lakes Rd. is not considered a sno-park.

So they are fine with us being up there until the road is stated as closed?

Yup, not only are they fine with us being up there, but they suggest that if we get a large group (over 20) that we apply for an event permit. This way the LEOs won't get suspicious and hassle us. Its an easy process done over email. We would need to get the PNW4WDA insurance to cover it.

The permit is $100, but we can get the parking area encompassed in the permit, meaning we wouldn't need a sno-park or forest pass to park there.

It'd be something worth looking at if we got some big crowds for this trip.

And by street legal, she said licensed. So yah, Andy's rig is good (hahaha) while Sam's rig isn't :)booo: ).. but hey did you get that plate on her yet?

So that makes my rig good.....:awesomework:

yup! ..

we also ran into issues with someone claiming that this was skiing only. I'm checking with the ski club to see if thats the case. I'm pretty sure not, since its not listed on their website, nor the FS website, and its not a sno-park.

I guess that makes all the more reason to get a permit. With it, we can just show it if anyone asks us what we're doing up there.

If it was skiing only, it would be a non-motorized sno-park, like the other roads in the area. I dont consider it closed until it is listed as such on the FS website, and I am sure thats how the FS looks at it.

It would be cool to team up with the FS, maybe get some good publicity for both sides out of it.:awesomework: Especially since they do nothing with ORV's in the Mt.Baker-Snoqualmie.

I still need to fix my rig.:haha: Stupid 4th of July-fun-time.:haha:

This isnt quite true. Maybe you have nothing in the North end but both Evans creek and the Naches trail are in the Mt Baker Snoqualmie forest.

I see, I was speaking mainly of the Darrington and Mt. Baker districts.

Doing some research, I also found there is one single track trail in the Mt.Baker district that allows motorcycles.

Just got a reply back from the Nordic Ski Club. They do not use that road because it is designated for multiple use, year round.

He adds that it doesn't make sense for them to groom it when its being used by snowmobiles and 4x4s.

So we're good. :awesomework:

So how is the road to this area steepness wise?

Are you talkin about the Mt Baker highway to get there? Or the road up to the lakes?
You could totally drive the Runner up here for this if you're worried about the tow rig...I'ma bring the Cherokar again I think!:redneck: (since my trans is dead in the truck...:booo:)
