I'm thinking about buying this f250 it has a 5.3 with a manual. Does anybody have any experience with that type of truck. I will use it as a dd/ tow rig.

I'd almost put money on it needing balljoints, wheel bearings or both. Other than that the only thing I don't like about those super duty's that I don't like is the ****ty turning radius you get with those front ends.

They're also STUPID easy to break into, but there are products on the market to fix that.

I don't think that you will be happy with the towing, economy, or performance out of the 5.4 in a 3/4ton truck personally. It will be a little better being aanual, but they are even a little under powered in the stock F-150s. I agree with the above posts on the ball joints, make sure to check them out before you buy it.

If it has 4.88s, it will be better for sure, but I honestly wouldn't buy a SuperDuty with that engine just because I think it will be a disappointment. Just my .02

Every one I've driven with a 5.4 has felt like a dog, that's for sure but then again they always will since 90% of them I deal with are diesels.

For $6000 you can buy the same truck with the v10. A lot more power and mileage will be close to the same

Pile of **** !!!

Look for a older Ford, that thing is a POS don't even bother checking ball joints and bearings ,, JUNK

That thing would not do to good even towing a tent trailer,

Scrap it !!!!:wtf:

Might be

Isn't that the engine that spits out spark plugs?

Not sure about that but they do eat up the #4 coil, doesn't get enough cooling backed up against the fire wall and the # 6 or 7 plug is a pia to change

what happened to the dodge? you should dup $6000 in that motor it would give you all you would ever need and then some . Besides diesels are way better than a gaser any day of the week.

what happened to the dodge ? you should spend that money on that motor you will be way happier with that than any gas motor.

That sooper-hoopty looks dope though..... That said, I bought a newer gasser and wished I'd have bought an older Cummins dodge.

Not sure what crack pipe Frankie picked up this time, but the #4 coil does NOT fail due to heat--#4 fails typically due to coolant dripping from the heater hose connection right above it, shorting the secondary windings when the plug tube fills with coolant, much like #5 and/or 6 does when the T-stat/intake starts leaking...#7 and 8 are the two that are hardest to change on the driver's side, but not difficult by any stretch...#4 is the biggest PITA due to, once again, the proximity of it in general, and of the heater hose tube passing right over the top of the coil...
The 5.4L are a good engine, just underpowered in any SD truck larger than a standard cab...:awesomework:

Crack Pipe ?

well sure that's likely with them filling up with coolant, but run into a few now not a spec of coolant in sight and a dead # 4 coil, looked into it and that's the story I heard, since there was no coolant the overheating theory sounded good enough,

Now the weird thing that threw me off is that the coil sparked like all get out with a screwdriver stuck in it, but wouldn't fire the plug ???

So as long as where passing the crack pipe around, dead, junk coils are common
The cheap replacements only lasted about a year, as to why is debatable certainly not entirely a coolant leaking problem, it is not what I have encountered

Wasn't there also a problem with condensation coming off the low side a/c line?

Hmmm

Wasn't there also a problem with condensation coming off the low side a/c line?

coolant, condensation ?

You would think you would see evidence of such, not what I have seen,

Thinking you guys are making this up as you go along, but then again the fist rig I ran into this on was a stinkin navigator, so might be configured different then the Pick up ??

either way a knowledgable source told me it got to hot and failed,
