Before I could start the wall I had to fix this support. It was patched at some point but was patched way too low as the support was still rotted where it met the patch. So I jacked up the roof a tad and cut it out as high as I could go. Its good an sturdy now.

I got the wall rebuilt and reused the plywood but went with pressure treated and cedar at the base. Before the plywood was layed over the siding and since there was about 1/2" gap I was able to get it up under it. Damn tricky too since both upper/lower mating surfaces were at an angle.

So before I could build the short wall for the gate I had to fix a problem with the end of the wall that I did a temp fix on--time to do a permanent fix. At some point it was hit and knocked the wall off the foundation and I kinda popped it back into place but the base board was broken and the wall kinda wiggled.

The original base board was a true 2x4 so I ripped a 2x6 to match the width and had to cut the support and stacked another ripped 2x6 on top of it since it had been cut prior. I secured it to the foundation and replaced some boards and got the wall what looks to be in its original spot. Its really sound now and should last. This is good practice since the wall on the other side of the doorway also needs some major work at the foundation and about 20 feet down.

So since that was done I was able to get the 4x4 mounted that holds the latch and a small wall made.

Now for the really ****ty part.

So my father in law was in a rehab center for over a month in hopes he would get better. Unfortunately he has continued to decline and was going to be released this last Tuesday. He insisted on being home sooner and was brought home this last saturday. After we got him out of the transport van I asked if he wanted a tour of the barn before we took him inside he lit up and wanted to.

I gave him the grand tour and I hope he was able to take it all in and I hope he was able to comprehend what he saw--I think he did.

So he has been bed ridden since that day and hospice started on monday. Breaks my heart and our family has been thru so much pain the last couple years but it has made us stronger.

The wifey is doing ok. She has been spend lot of time out in the yard since the weather has been nice but has her moments.

I am still pushing onward because working hard and knowing how much bob liked what I was doing--he would want me to go onward.

So I got some amenities for the horse done. Made a big box to hold the shavings/pellets, hay and feed.

Next I went onto the area where the horse will be washed, saddled, brushed and ect. I had to replace one support beam since 2/3 of it was gone. I added 2 post's with eyelets for attaching the horse to. I also reworked the lighting since the single light fixture wasn't going to work (figured it wouldn't be enough light). The wife loved it.

The entry way into the barn needed some work. You had to step up and then down. The wife being so short it was kinda funny watching her little legs go in. Myself I had almost fell a couple times. So I built a wall outside and built up the ground level. I also built steps inside and the wife was very happy and said getting in is now allot easier. I still need to build a door since the one that I was going to use is too tall. I gotta locate some siding thats close to whats on the barn before I can finish that.

Hit the horse area one more time with the pressure washer and man the place really turned out nice. On saturday my sister delivered our newest addition to the family. We got lucky and got a great horse--very well manured and very friendly.

It was prefect timing as it has helped the wife and take her mind off things.

Started moving dirt and redoing the ditch out behind the barn. I still need practice and its certainly tough doing it with only a bucket-need to get a blade on the back of it. But there is a drainage ditch that runs from the middle shop out behind the barn thats been inactive for as long time. Years ago when we had horses it was always VERY bad between the barn and the pasture where the ditch kinda was--time to fix that.

So since my first part was to get the ditch roughed in and done where the horse will go between the barn and the pasture. Second part is to build a short bridge over the ditch. I know I could have done a covert of some sort but I wanted to try something I have yet to try--build a bridge. Bob had a stack of cedar planks that I thought would be perfect. So I started by clearing a spot in the middle shop(no easy task,lol) and built the support assembly and then packed it into the dodge and hauled it over--now the hard part. By now I am just beat but pushed onward. Found one heck of a clay base where I dug for the support blocks to sit(trying to level/slant 3 blocks in a row--damn thats a *****). After some painstaking work/patience I was able to get them set and packed into place. Set the face boards in place and cut the railings--its pretty damn sound so will see how it works/holds up for the horse.

Started the fencing tonight and worked till I couldn't pound any more t-posts in. I also was out of wood mount insulators so I figured I would call it a night. Up at daylight and back at it.
