Not much going on lately, still chipping away at the small stuff.

I did finally get my aluminum 14 bolt hubs from IMS, still waiting on the fronts. I ended up making new caliper brackets because I didn't like how theirs mounted the calipers in different positions left to right.




And finished the exhaust, got it all tacked together, now just to weld it all up.



And mounted up a few coolers and a battery.

Not really. Engine and transmission are back from rebuild. Floor pans are coated. Sheet metal should be going to paint this weekend. And the chassis is stripped, waiting on some motivation to weld it all out.

Finally got Photobucket to act right long enough to upload some pics. I did build some aluminum armor and changed some stuff on the chassis since the last update. Basically just trying to finish welding everything up and get it to powder and paint.

I got the FiTech Ultimate LS Kit this go round. That’s their composite intake you see in that picture above.

I’ve only ever run the factory computer and wiring before. I had trouble getting my last one tuned in and I don’t have a shop anywhere close to me that offers dyno tuning. I was having to haul it an hour away to get it tuned and it still wasn’t right. I decided to try a self learning system to help with that and the FiTech system was a good price for what you get. I may end up being disappointed with it in the end.

Yea the factory harness cut down still has some drawbacks. Mine is running on the tune it was sent with. Soso.. I haven't found a tuner in my area either. I want to switch mine to aftermarket. Thanks for the info. Going to chocco soon, so I may schedule something with lane Culver.

Why do you think you would be disappointed?

Not necessarily disappointed in the quality of the product, but in it's ability to self learn. Those types of systems need to be run a lot in order to learn, which is kind of difficult in an off road only rig. Probably going to take some time for it to smooth out.

Look into the Gold box ECM MS3 by mirco squirt, It's not self learning but it is quality and the couple of tuners I talked to say it is very friendly to tune.

I've prowled this website for years and I have always thought you have done an incredible job. On par with any professional shop I've seen (I'm no expert). Would love to see you build a full tube chassis tacoma. Would love to see your take on how to bob the bed and exo.

Well, I finished it last year. On its maiden voyage it dropped oil pressure and the motor had to go back to the machine shop. Turned out to be a cam bearing walked out and was rubbing the lifter.
Since the motor was back out, I swapped the FiTech for Edelbrock Pro Flo, changed the headers to Sanderson and redid the exhaust, changed mufflers and added a second pump for the hydro boost.
I’ve wheeled it once (maybe twice?) since then.
It’s been sitting in the trailer for the past several months. Got it out during the snowstorm. Battery was dead and tires almost flat.
It’s sitting in the shop now, waiting to get wired for a battery charger before it goes back in the trailer.
