Thats a nice clean break BTW:awesomework: Should pop out pretty easy.

Tricks for removing broken axle pieces

Use a magnet, one of those long, collapsable ones.

Use a stick welder, and zap (weld) the rod to the broken piece, then pull it out.

Pull the good axle out, stick a dowel thru the good side, pushing the broken piece out of the bad side.

Pull the cover, use a piece slender tool to pry the piece out of the carrier.

If the carrier has a center pin (like an ARB) try inserting a long tool (like a really long extension for a half inch ratchet) into the good axle side, bangin' it real hard to shock load the center pin, causing the broken piece to break free of whatever suction it's being held in.

If the piece is broken completely within the carrier, pull the carrier.

or any combination of the above.

I have used the welding rod trick before except I stick a small piece of pvc down the tube and run the welding rods down the tube so it dosent hit anything its no supposed to. also makes it easier to pull the broken piece out.

nice, thanks for th options.

I will have to grab a magnet thats a mighty easy way if shes loose.

Ah I have seen this/been a party to the stick welder axle getter, however I had the pleasure of watching it done with out the pvc....took a few trys:redneck:

I tried the magnet deal on mine (welded dana 44...broke clean @ the splines) but could not get the piece to come out. Went to the hardware store & bought a steel dowel...was able to pound it out from the other side.

Good times :awesomework:

Ok Tried the magnet, just wasn't enough.

Pulled the axle and punched it through only to have it fall in to the center and I ended up tearin the third out.......

You forgot step 1: "Flop rig onto its side, with broken axle down. Catch gear oil in a pan so that it can be poured back in afterward."
