So I'm getting ready to start picking up the pieces for my SAS. I was just wondering how you guys would approach it. I know theres a bunch of companies out there offering kits with everything you need, but I wonder what everyone is doing for themselves.

Are you guys fabbing your own spring hangers, shackle tubes? RUF's ride well on the road? Steering?

I'm definitely on a budget, and thought I'd check in before making any purchases. If anyone on here is pretty handy with fabbing the parts in question, I'd have no problem picking up some homebrew hangers and such. Knowing how the economy is in the shitter, I know a few bucks on the side here and there helps.

I can make you the front hanger if needed $60 come by my work Longs custom welding on 56 th proctor if serious.

Did one a few years ago... used a TG front hanger, shackles, tubes, and jigs...

Moved rear springs to front, put Ford 57's in back

purchased steering box brace kit, moved box forward, used TG xover high steer kit

Built my own shock mounts

Homemade front driveline

Worked great, and was on the cheap... and done in a day :awesomework:

I get it. I've searched, and read, and read, and read. Read most of the build ups on here and pirate, just wanted to know what you guys thought. $1k or more seemed like a ton of money for the kits out there. As far as Xover steering goes, whom would you pick it up from? Allpro? Skys? TG? Homefab?

KBlazen, whats your hours? I can stop by with some cash in the evening if you're going to be there.

Well I have a sky man hanger layin around i will just copy it . Ill be there 8-5 give me a day to get it done .ill do it some time through out the day located by moctazumas on s.56th behind ziggies auto repair off south tacoma way ask for mike or russ.:awesomework:

Chops is another option he might be closer to ya we posted at same time.

If i remember right i think marlin has a beafier hy steer setup then tg, if its gonna get wheeled hard minus well throw out the out money for the hog daddy one. Havent researched skys or anything though in a while. i think the arms are the same between mc and tg but the stearing arms are beefier, or you can upgrade the centering pin that runs into the knuckle that the trunions go on the mc one.

Start slow, buy used, get everything together, then when you have all the stuff, it can be done in 1 day. Ford Shock Towers for shocks, used shocks, used steering stabilizer, used 4.56 third members, used highsteer, used springs, it can all be found for relativly cheap and in good condition, just keep your eye out. We have done one for under $500 and that included a $175 hanger kit.

Crush and Board. This is the stuff I was looking for. I knew it was out there.

Thanks guys.

Blazer, I'm working late all this week, and will try and stop in next. I should be off bangor by then and on to something on this side of the bridge.

if you need some solid axle parts, let me know i have one complete hub to hub except one birf and a 3rd. Swap meet in puyallup coming soon might wanna peice one together there little by little. Knuckle rebuild kits and gear installs really jack the price up on these as im finding out. If you dont want fancy hysteer yet i have a spare stock stearing setup and non power stearing box in my garage waisting away if ya need it pm me

That would be a downgrade an be de-engineering something, if he can't buck up 150 bucks for a used high steer setup, he should wait till he can or keep it IFS.

Whenever I have helped on a SAS, we used the TG basic hanger kit, used highsteer, ford shocktowers, an stock front springs, this combo works well on gen 3 pickups up to about 35's. Gen 2's may require RUF to fit 35's. This setup was very streetable, an worked well on DD's.

When we ran 33's an stock front springs on a SAS on a gen 3, we did not have to move the box, but we did have an issue with V6's, with the tie rod hitting the oil pan.

no doubt on that one im more then likely going to scrap it, or carry it for spares for others out wheeling. just figured id throw it out there if hes anxious to cut the IFS off and didnt have stearring figured out yet

I live in Puyallup and can build you a front hangar too. TIG welded with a 1 3/4" DOM cross tube. I can make them for any width spring or front axle. There are always good used steering parts in the classifieds to save you money. Send me a PM if you are interested. I do alot of custom suspensions and steering.

He'll only charge you eleventy million dollars!!!!:ANYWORD:

I wouldn't go cheep on your suspension or steering if you plan on driving it on the road. I know if I was at falt in a accident and it was because of my crappy fab work on my suspension or steering, I would have a hard time living with myself.:awesomework:
