Manastash Ridge Trail - curious...

rocky saddle dropoff..

Yeah, Mark definitely has a different perspective of the dropoff...Mark you still have that pic? I believe we were some of the last ones off of it before it was closed down

Yes, I still have the picture of the Flatfender Perpendicular to mother earth. Poor little flatty, I also have a picture of the wrangler going up the hill too (only winched about 30 feet of the hill).

I have a copy of that pic someplace :redneck:

I might have to dig up a copy...I'm sure ZIP remembers the day.

(note to everybody... don't follow that guy!!!)

Heck seeing that from the bottom was scary enough more less running to an empty jeep after you stopped...find the pic...one & a half rolls off the drop off & driving away is a good day

Are we still talking about the Rocky Saddle Drop? If so I was here for this one. Pic Stolen from Homey

The tree that stopped the jeep in your pic is what I was running for when Mark went over, I had gone down just before him & was watching...it was always exciting

The hill it self doesn't look that step in the pic. Was he hard on the brakes or what. I know pics don't show how step stuff really is though.

wheelbase sucks..

The trail is behind the ridge you can see in the picture, My foot bounced off the brake pedal, causing the rear to pass the front. Yep, your right my foot should have been on the gas (hindsight is always 20/20). live and learn..

He's already traveled through the dropoff, he's probably 10' down the loose stuff in this pic...yeah in hind sight if he had throttled up he could of pulled it out

There was a lot to be thinking about, as there were deep holes dug into the track at the dropoff due to folks winching up, which aslo made it even steeper. We had to straddle these holes & sluff off into the track which in turn lifted the rear up & over. Due to the holes you really didn't know when to get into the throttle & brake until you felt the drop & rearend lift. At least for me, as it was my tires were turned hard left at that point. as soon as I straightened them I sluffed off & the ride was on

Your basically out of control somewhat for several feet as your into the brake & throttle to keep pointing downhill & then you have to stop before the trees...it was definitely a thrill

Wow. I just walked away letting this pot boil! Thanks for all of the input, fellas.
no--the 601 :redneck:
I don't know why I typed 610...
TC's off road store used to have pictures of jeeps going down it from back in the day.
TC's off road store?
Thank you.
Funny
The old 601 trail you guys refer to is the current 330 trail. The trail was closed years ago due to the steep hill you refer to. The Wandering Willys Jeep club through the PNW re-routed the trail around the closed area to reopen it somewhere close to 15 years ago now. I was part of that process.
I don't know of any trails out of Tripod flats and unless it's a marked trail don't run it. There were issues last year with people making illegal trails out of the meadow and the USFS is looking at options now with how to deal with people going off trail in the meadow. It's beyond me why people can't follow a simple two track through a meadow.
Good info. And I second the thought on staying on the trail. There are numerous bone-headed tracks through the meadow at Tripod Flats. Not to bash the tires, but it was a whole bunch of bogger tracks, of course. IQ=tire size...
I wonder if their talking about the lost lake turn off Mitch :eeek: Kinda sounds like it but its a little ways from tripod. Closer to the shoestring region 4 meadows turnoff
Nope. That is before Tripod Flats. We are well up on the ridge from there.
ya, im thinking that green trail is where 694 turns into 307, there's an obvious junction and the 4W687 trail goes up to the left with a smaller quad trail 687 just before that on the left that dives back down. The trail in question (purple line) would be if you continued straight on 307 as it starts to go down in elevation and the main trail then turns right and through a puddle and then starts gaining elevation again, the trail in question would be straight/left off the edge of the hill before that puddle.

I don't know if i'm making any sense.

Stop drinking! ha
Now you have me unsure, but I could have sworn that the point that started this whole thread is at the green line on Boonie Buster's modified NWJeepin' map.

nope, the map we had from nwjeepn is wrong, i'm almost certain! That green line is that 685 that was at the intersection we turned around at, if you look at the cle elum ranger maps its pretty clear, i'm 98% sure that the puple line is where the trail your hiked down is. :awesomework:

I'm gonna punch you in your jeans.:fawkdancesmiley:
