So this morning I set out to fix the damage to my trailer from the last person who borrowed it. I drug it over to the shop and one wheel was locked up. I pulled the drum and found this. I have never had this happen to me or seen anybody experiance this. The lining just fell off on both shoes. Thank goodness I was not towing and the front axle brakes have not worked in a while due to a broken wire.

I had a set do that. Rust crept from the outside in and they separated.
The truck had been sitting for a couple years in the yard.

That's the difference between riveted and bonded linings. Always go for riveted if you can. Although for you guys in the fawking rain forest the rivets would probably rust away just as fast. :flipoff:

Glued on shoes. We see it at the shop often. The heat gets too intense and bakes the glue, then they separate.

I could see it happening from heat. But this isn't the case and I suspect like what dan said from rust working its way between the lining and shoe.

Get better shoes this time.. I need to pull my brakes apart and check them out. I have never checked them and I know Joe didn't when he had the trailer new and its an 06.

I'm sure I have something going on. When I drag the trailer and hit the brakes it pulls to the left I think. So I'm sure there is something going on.

I've only seen that from cheap Shoes and pads from les schwab, midas, etc.

One I never loan my trailer out anymore.. There is always something f*cked up when it comes back...

Two once a year I pull all the wheels and check bearings and adjust brakes..

i have seen shoes come apart like that on cherokees mostly when they have a axle seal leaking but some times its just rust. i have also seen the riveted ones do the same thing but they flake off between rivets
