solar powered survalence

Ok in the last few months 5 or 6 folks in my neck of the woods have had our mailboxs smashed. We know the bastard kids but no proof for the popos. So im wanting to put a camera by it. Bad thing is my house is 1/2 mile from road so no electricity. So what im wanting is some one to put me in the right direction on a good setup and some tips. Im to the point im gonna set by the road and wait till they come back. This is the 3rd time so im guessing it will happen again soon...

How about a game camera?

Just make sure it's a higher quality one with infared so there is no flash. Some farmer in my area caught some guys that were stealing diesel from his irrigation rig with one. Mounted it on a corn stalk and got them redhanded.

Not sure how the game camera works, but might not work if a lot of people drive by the mailbox. Otherwise, sounds like a good idea

Yea we have thought bout using a game cam since my dad has bout 20 of them. But this road is high traffic. Ive been looking at some setups on northerntools.com they are very reasonable. May just put an 1 1/4 exo cage around my mail box.....

or just come off the money and get a good 8 camera system for the whole house and get a roll of coax to run one to the road.
Look around on that site. I seen one on ebay a long time ago that was self-contained like a deer camera but it was a bullet style motion detection video camera that used SD cards and i cant find one on there now.

I talked to a surveillance place in Birmingham yesterday they said they have never seen any solar powered cameras.

Northern tool sales them. I guess with a 200lb mailbox ill find them layin in the road or in the ER with broke arms. Gota get door on tomorrow and give it some paint! Then collect ball bats.

we used to have issues around the house with maiboxes... Bought one of the green plastic boxes and filled it full of concrete. Never had any issues again.

biggest issue with most game cameras is the amount of images they will hold, and the flash.
