Hunting from the yak this morning

Nice wood (ies). Looks like you've found you a good hole. We used to have a really reliable spot like that here on the edges of Guntersville Lake, but the tornadoes ruined that for us

I bird hunt like most people deer hunt, I hang with it all season long, I usually have several holes to choose from. Believe it or not these birds were taken from public land trick is, yak hunting. I get to spots an average hunter isn't going to go thru the trouble to get to. This morning I paddled to the middle of a narrow lake, backed up into a fallen tree and threw a camo net over the bow, the birds never knew I was there. Problem is Frank don't get to go when I yak hunt, he really gets pissed when I come home with ducks he didn't fetch up.

Ducks just make noise while I'm deer hunting.....

X 2. I have alwayse wanted to try duck hunting but Im not sure i could afford it. They say it gets a little $$$$$. I have 2 choc labs myself but them are lazy ****s that lay around the house. Prob wont run down a dead bird..

I would say duck hunting is probably some of the most expensive hunting you can do regulary, meaning something like elk or moose hunting in Canada which can cost in excess of $5000 for one guided trip. Duck hunting is federally regulated, strict bag and time limits and steel shot are required. Shells run $16 to $26 a box and if you get caught with an infraction they make sure you won't let it happen twice.

You can get everything you need to hunt for 3-5 seasons for:
$200 GOOD WADERS
$200 GOOD WATERPROOF PARKA
$150 CASE OF STEEL SHOT
$150 12-18 COOT AND OTHER ASSORTED DECOYS

$700 Will get you a very good start if you already have a good 12ga, warm hunting related clothes to layer with, and a place to walk in and hunt. A boat is a plus though for sure

I hate to whore up this thread, but my season has been so awful so far I've got alot of left over ammo:

12ga - 5 Boxes of Winchester Xpert Steel 3in 1-1/4oz 1400fps Steel 4 shot = $11.50 a box or $55 for all

Let me know if anyone needs it

FL duck season off to a great start, quickly killed two limits this morning. Frank was almost flawless except had to recast him on one bird that he did not mark down. Not bad for no more work I have done with him since last season.
