got a 86 CJ7 im building a crawler....what is yalls stories or likes dislikes about doing this..has stock axles so it has to be carved up anyway for one tons...so im asking backhalve it with 4-link or leave the body and 4-link???? thanx for inputs

I have s 85 CJ one tons 4 link front and rear. The main problem I have is where the frame is still stock it cracks. I would plate as much as you can, mine has some of the orginal body still. I think they look good both ways.

To me in depends on what type of riding as to how extreme a back-half. I thought about chopping up my CJ7, but wanted to be able to carry plenty of tools, spare, camp, etc. Also liked to not get covered in mud everywhere I went.

BDrake's old CJ8 was a good example of narrowing the rear of the Jeep to gain clearance etc, so you could always go that route.

i want the rear narrowed a (full backhalf job),enough room in the rear to accomadate another small seat for xtra rider or take it out to hold tools and what not,....and a cooler full of (ICE WATER) too...i just want sumthing for me and how i ride (not a showoff type person)...a couple month ago they was a orange CJ7 with Lt1,backhalfed,with 44s for sale,..that was a nice looking rig(got pic saved on labtop..lol)

I did a backhalf on a CJ-7 about a year ago and there was enough room in the back for a seat possibly.....I think the pics oare still in the tech section

Here is my old yj i backhalfed.......going the route i did i lost all.storage ability and rear seat

you can cut out all the shitty frame, tube and stretch, and still have it look like a jeep. Also you have plenty of room for storage and a back seat.
like this
(please ignore the guy stroking one out in the back ground...)

I bought that orange cj. It looked good from far, but it was far from good. The suspension was set up like ****, front driveshaft to short, booger welded together, trusses not tied into axles very good. But it does look good. It's getting a make over as we speak. If you want some pics of how it looks for reference let me know.

I preferred the backhalf over a full body.
