Off Road Clubs

Ive been a member of CAOS for years. It a great bunch of people. We have a blast and there is a ride every month. I can also take my kids with out worring about anything they dont need to hear or see. If your looking for a great club in central Alabama check out caos4x4.com or come out to one of our dinner / meetings and just see what we are about. You can also find us on FB and get updates on events and club rides. :driving:

I am apart of Bayou Jeepers Offroad over here in Louisiana. We were 100 rigs strong 5 years ago but then like every group we had a big split. Some will say it was the mall crawlers splitting from the wheelers because from outside looking it that is what it did look like. The real reason is a dealership that we were partnered up with was trying to take everything over and make the club their marketing tool. The members voted to dissolve the partnership and the dealership started their own club. Now they have all of the pretty blinged out mall crawlers and we have the originals who just like to have fun and wheel. I put together a run for the Wounded Warriors every year and we do what we can for those who are in need. I forgot where I was going with this.

Anyways, got rid of the jeep to get a bronco buggy and now I am trading it Saturday for an early bronco so I can just cruise. Wifey and baby girl make it really hard to justify spending a few thousand dollars a year on something that I cant enjoy with them.

Man getting old and having responsibilities is nice but sucks. haha

Generally I don't do well with rules.. At all.. Nor do I care to be in a line with 28 JK's , hell I ain't got a CB to hear what they are talkin bout. :****: ha. I saw a long time ago on a jeep club that they would call "proper authorities" if someone was seen drinking and driving ... Haha that made me wonder what they would do when I showed up.. Which would never happen. Kinda sounds like wheelin with a bunch of cops. Thought bout showing up, Smokin a stankin ass Doobie and seein if anyone in the "club" could catch me. :woot: Then I saw a group at duraham town when we went up there.. That when I realized how bad they suck. This is the typical JK group. Not some yAll have mentioned. Man that **** looked miserable. Riding really slow over rocks U can pick up and throw.. Talkin on cb's.. Non stop. there's a sticker on my **** that says how I feel about many and most groups or organizations. :****: wait here it is.

I have found it more fun to just go wheel'n with like minded friends. Ones that have similarly built rigs and not scared to get out on the trail. If someone becomes a bitch, they dont get called for the next time we ride.

I guess that is why you never call me anymore!!! thumb.gif

Why you gotta be hatin on the JK's? :flipoff1:

My wife's jeep is mall rated. She doesn't know anything about clubs but she hates the "jeep wave". She says "I don't see Honda Accord owners all waving at each other why the heck do I have to wave at every other person in a Jeep. I don't know them" hers is the epitome of a mall crawler. It ain't NEVER getting off the pavement! It's even getting badges!

Although I've been off-roading and riding 4-wheelers for over 25 years, I bought my first Jeep in 2003 and joined The Orlando Jeep Club that year. Within a couple years I met a lot of great people and was introduced and quickly hooked on rock crawling. Obviously we don't have any mountains in Florida so we take a couple out of state trips per year. I've been to River Rock and Morris Mountain both a half dozen times back in the days and more recently to Badlands, Choccolocco, Durhamtown, Harlan, Gulches, Wind Rock and AOP.

Like others have said, the whole "club" thing isn't for everyone but I personally have gained a lot of great friends and made many great memories through our Jeep club. Our club is made up of over 300 active members with everything from 1st time 4 door JK owners to former WE Rock competitors with buggies. Of course there are aspects of the club that don't really interest me, so I just attend the events that I think I will enjoy and skip the ones that I don't really care about. When I joined in 2003 I was member # 288 and we are currently around member # 1300. For most in the club the "Jeep" thing is just a phase and many are gone after a few years. Over the last 5-7 years our membership demographic has really changed with the production of the extremely popular JK's. There's a small group of about 30-40 of us that have been around for a while and really like to wheel our jeeps up in the mountains while the majority are perfectly fine with just trail riding through the woods on dirt roads and/or going to social events.

I think every club is going to have pros and cons to it and if you find the right group of people you will enjoy it for the most part. I also think it's funny how some people automatically have so many negative things to say about clubs that they have probably never been a part of.

Just going off an experience I had at Harlan. Jumped in with a Jeep club, bunch of TJ douche nozzles, NOT because of the Jeeps, but the "I can do anything with my bolt-ons" or the "don't scratch it" guys, and this group had both. Rode with them on 2 trails, when it wasn't a Warn demonstration, it was babysitting to keep them off of rocks. The ONE guy who was actually willing to beat on his JC Whitney'd TJ ended up breaking something in the rear end. Wasn't fun AT ALL. That is why I have a sour impression of Jeep Clubs.

Now if there was a Jeep club that was only for vehicles like Kush or kcmcminn, I'd support that. No offense to you guys or your clubs, but how many of your members will, or even can beat the hell out of em and make it back to camp? I suppose wheeling is very individualized aand 95% of the club crowd is just not for me.

I'm a member of the Damn Locals 4x4 club out of Tracy City TN we have annual rides for all types of rigs and we raise money for local charities. We have also had food for bounty hill at aop and members help Tom with recovery. :dblthumb:

I have been a member of several clubs and the only thing that can really be said is they are a direct reflection of the people in them. They even change over time. I am at the point now that I really don't enjoy the club thing that much. I like hanging out with people at camp alright but otherwise when on the trail I generally want to keep moving and not have to have a winch fest every time someone is scared to scratch their skidplates. Hell nothing is worse than having to unload all of my recovery gear to recover someone's vehicle because they don't have anything with them period. I don't mind helping but come on bring a tool bag or some beer for the guy with a tool bag.
