I've done a lot of reading. Got a couple different views on h1's. I was just wondering if anyone has anything to add.
What I've gathered so far:
12 are better than 8 bolts, however there is nothing wrong with the 8's.
Buy the pvc inserts
They heavy
Buy them already welded.

Anything I missed?

Keep the magnesium inserts. They burn as hot as the sun. I had 8's with pressed centers. Loved them and wished I had another set.

I've always ran the mag inserts but I cut them down. It's kind of a pain but they work fine. I've also ran 12 and 8 bolts, no issues with either.

-re-centered
-pvc inserts
-wheel stiffeners

I think they are worth it, if you are trying to go the cheap route...when its all said in done, you have a set of wheels that have:
inner and outer beadlocks
tough as nails
the exact offset/pattern you want
plenty of builder parts

before paint:

I had a set and sold them before I decided on a tire. Mine were built but I could a tire in a 16.5 readily available I wanted to run. I sold them and went with a set of Krawlers. Can't beat the double beadlock

I love h1 rims they are tough and cheap if you put in the work 12 bolts are more common now so I would go with them as far as recentèing them if you have a plasma cutter and welder do it your self. Remember they are going on a off road rig that doesn't see speeds above 40 very much also you will be putting huge tires that are under inflated on them they don't have to be perfect. Depending on bolt patter get the strongest center you can for 8lug it would be pressed center for Rockwell it would be 3/8 plate with gussets or 1/2 plate you will also need rim stiffer for both sides 1/4 to 3/8 to protect your studs and a rolled peice of 1/2 round stock for the rear. I would use your stock h1 rubber runflats with the Mohawk cut off use a chainsaw and it cuts off pretty easy but it will make a heck of a mess

H1's are like the granny 4 speed of wheels. They have a couple of drawbacks but overall they just WORK.

Finally someone "dumbed it down" for me. Lol
The overall they should fit in well with the overall theme of my build. Square links, spray paint, manny tranny....
Big,heavy, cheap. :indianajones:

Heavy is right, I weighed my 43sx on h1s. 211lbs that's with 3/8 flat centers, 1/4 Rock rings and pvc inserts

Re:

My 12 bolts h1s, with rubber runflats, pressed centers, and 1/4 rock rings with 42" sx2s weight 215 lbs

I like having the rubber runflat as it keeps from pinching the sidewall with low psi, when I'm trying to drive like an idiot. It acts like a bumpstop for the tire.

Why the **** would you ever weigh them...what do they weigh? they heavy...that's all you need to know.

I literally have chunks of bark/tree wedged between my H1's and tires. I have 1/4'' rock rims. Mine are literally beat to hell and they still just keep on keepin on.

I've got a set I bought from Randall key that I'll sell

I loved my 8 bolts. Ran them for 8-9 years with no problems. If you run 8s Cut the mag run flats down and if you run 12s put pvc inserts as the rubbers are sooo damn heavy and a pain in the ass to dismount. Put rock rings on either one right from the rip and call it good.
