I guess it can be our secret haha. I would say the pain in the ass is cutting all the cast stuff off but other than that it's a no brainer over a old school 60.

You got that right. Fawk I hate cutting stuff off of them.

I lift. A lot. I'm on stock shafts and joints still under my dumpster Cherokee 4.slow powered unit. On 39" reds. Woooo

My totally unscientific opinion is under 500hp you're good with a HP60 and 35 spline but once you cross that 500hp threshold you're on borrowed time if you like to never lift.
It's crazy to thnk that 500HP is where you draw the line for anything in our sport, especially to a Toyota guy such as myself laughing1

Which shafts and joints are you planning to run in it?

I am just going to run the stock 35 spline stuff for now, I just have a stock 5.3 so I'm not running crazy horsepower and I like to think I can drive.. :indianajones: I'm going to run a spool that I've had put up for a while. When I do grenade it is will receive recheck my options..

Another question I havnt found answers to...will the 1550 joint (the 450/550) fit in a standard s.d. (f250/350) 05+ 60?

No. The knuckle and inner C on the 450/550 axles are quite a bit larger. (And heavy!)

Yes

But

Stock 1550 shafts would have to be cut and resplined (inners too long for 250/350 axles)... Then you still have stock 35 spline shafts...

CTM makes 1550 shafts/joints for them, but they are like $5-6000.

For big joints the Rockwell size RCVs that direct spline into the unit bearing seem to be the ticket.

Main reason I was asking is for the 40 spline shafts that branik has (foote?). I havnt called them but I assume they use 1480 joints? I would say a super joint or ctm would hold up.

I'm still leaning towards a 300m 35 spline....if a man was to go 40 spline and start blowing up ring and pinions, seems like more trouble and exspinse to fix over getting a new 35 spline shaft on warranty no questions asked.

Back to the original quesrion lotus had as far as mounting the links, I did similarly to others with cutting the housing but kept it to a minimum. I then tied the link tabs back up to the truss. Tabs and bracing all 3/8".

Of course then I had to make the passenger side match.

I've been looking around to see what guys have done to the SD 60. finally found something...thanks guys!!!.
I'm at the point of needing to cut the cast off as well. was kinda leery.
Picked up my SD60 and Sterling rear for $200CAN tossed the Sterling in the scrap pile and found a 79 14 bolt for $75.....Axles cheap up in Canada
thanks again and keep choppin!!
