The Dirt Squirrel v. 2.0 -- Even Dirtier

Nice. Looks like the same mufflers I ended up getting. Also looks to be about the same way I may have to route mine. Are you planning on putting skids over the tubes protecting the exhaust?

I plan on skinning the subframe to protect the exhaust. Trying to find some AR plate locally for my skids. I just couldn't do it the way I wanted without limiting my uptravel. This way should work. We will see I guess.
 
If you could bring your outlets all the way back to frame rail tails, the noise will be much softer and not obnoxious.

Looks great man. Let's link up and go run the sticky rocks many times this year. I'm about 5hrs away.

I think im going to go the obnoxious route and see how she sounds. The 10 series flowmaster i had on it last time was mellow but really sounded great at WOT. im hoping these are similar.

Sounds good. I cant wait to get this thing out on the trail and see how she performs.
 
Prior to the weekend, i started to plate the frame joints (where possible). Some tube is in the way of plating it on both side of the joint, but one is better than none IMO. Cutting these out by hand sucks. im doing one side at a time, then will flip it back over and repeat.



Chassis is about 99% welded. Just needs some additional gussets and bracing for the lower links.

yessir. the original clamp finally **** the bed so i went this route. 95% of the time its awesome. On smaller stuff the magnet sometimes gets in the way.

added some tube to the belly and some triangulation behind the front lower link mounts. The front uppers will be getting a similar treatment. The "H" will be getting some Ruffstuff interlocking tube clamps to help with trans removal out the bottom, if its ever needed.



Still need to gusset the link tabs, shock tabs, motor mounts, rear upper link mounts. Then i hope to get a quick coat of paint on it before i leave again on Sunday for offshore.

Thanks man. Matt (mcutler) posted those door bar tube ends. Im not sure where he is getting them. Im planning on leaving the bars solid for now.

Im back offshore in Ghana for 3-4 more weeks and am bored so id figure i would post up where i left off.

I added gussets to everything i thought was necessary and got started to get the chassis ready to some paint. And of course i then had to go back offshore.

Anywho, i ran in to a problem while adding gussets. I mocked everything up with short bolts and when it came time to use the right bolts for the links, they were too long. So this was my solution. A frenched piece of 1.75" dom half tube. bolt now goes in as its supposed to. NOTE: Always plan ahead.



Ill be doing some research on steering columns while offshore just in case i cant figure out a way to use the factory steering column. I want the orbital outside of the firewall since i always seem to end up hydraulic leaks and to have that between my legs left me with a not so good feeling.
