Re: Found one

Funny story.... have had a cel due to gutted cats.... new ones ordered.... BUT have also occasionally had a "thermostat malfunction" code.... bought a new stat and gasket and have been carting them around for a week or so..... changed em out today and guess what I found..... black plastic impeller pieces all jammed up in the stat housing and in the top of the radiator.... prolly in the heater core too.... lol

Re: Found one

Cats/ Y pipe were $270 shipped.... Picked up a hard top for $650 and a good trans for $400 (mine had been slipping in reverse)
All installed and it looks like she's pretty much sorted out now.... have about $8k in it now and couldn't be happier! Turned down a random offer od $10k the other day ;D

Planning on 4.88 gears, maybe an 8.8... 33x10.50's and 4ish" susp lift.... still need to 86 the body lift

I have seen 4.88s last in a 30, and I am not going to say it wont work, but 4.56 seems to be a LOT more reliable

Agree.... prolly gonna need to swap in an 8.8 or 44..... I didn't do my homework on this 42rlh trans before I bought it.... they're real pigs with a STEEP od n need lower gears than other o/d transmissions

a 30 is the front. A 35 isn't much better with it's 7.5 inch ring gear

Re: Found one

Yep you are correct.... that said I've been beating the hell out of a 30 n 35 in my yj w 4:10's n 33's (31's for first couple years) since 2007 and while I've busted several front shafts, a couple shocks, and a spring or two, I've never busted the 35.... this one being a daily driver maybe it'll hold up....

Re: Found one

Well I have a line on a (non rubicon) tj 44 takeout and a trac lok.

I put some new hinges on the back glass n cleaned n painted the rest of the hardware....

Got a boom mat headliner for $189..... put the hardtop harness in the jeep n got a wingbolt kit to attach it.

Found the wheels I wanted $50 for 4....

Ordered a set of 33 10.50 KM2's and some balancing beads.

Also picked up a 3" spacer lift for a temp solution while I figure out what I want to do for a lift....

Narrowing down gear ratio.... will do some testing with the tires on and play w calculator but have pretty much decided on shooting for 2800 rpm at 75 mph in od.... prolly 4.88 or 5.13

Re: Found one

Does anybody even make 5.13 for a d30. If so why? I run 4.56 in my zj with 36's and gearing is fine

Re: Found one

Yes they do

I have a steeper o/d than you and am less aerodynamic..... also this jeep is 99% highway use (still need to get in and out of difficult terrain tho)... cruise control on 80 mph without constant downshifting is important to me

Just did the math....
My YJ w 4:10's 5 speed and 33's runs 2500 at 75mph and I need to downshift more than I like at those speeds although it does fine at lower speeds....

4.88 puts this TJ at 2600 at the same speed w the same tires

5.13 puts it at 2740 same same.....

Soooo need to find a high pinion 30 and hopefully snag this 44 and 5.13's look to be the winner

I appreciate the offer but I need one for an xj/tj

If you were closer I'd prolly snag it as a spare for my YJ tho

I have an xj axle at home but I'm 99% sure it's a low pinion.

I'm pretty sure anything 97 and up was lp. The junkyards up here around Nashville are normally littered with them.
