Jeezus HoS,don't get your zebra print thong in a bunch.we just put an offer in on the new home of tractractor offroad,so things have been crazy.I'll get over there tomorrow.

the rockers on this thing are not strong, and I need some place to mount the body to the chassis.....so.....

so.....

its coming along nicely.....I'm really pretty happy w/ the way its turning out...

I think the rear TJ springs are going to work pretty well in the back.....there's no weight back there......even w/ the cab and the tube work that's there, 2 guys can lift the whole weight of the chassis from the rear....
but, I NEED some taller springs.....the rear TJ spring rate I think will work out good, but the stockers are WAY short.....I need some 4"-ish springs to put back there.....and need them soon....

also am going to need some shocks for back there....the ones I had in the rear are going to be way short....suggestions???.....long, cheap, and high-quality.........or, the best comprimise of the 3........and no more junk white-can shocks for me...

and.....who's got a good/clever/easy way to mount the TJ springs???....
I'm not sure if I want to fully capture them, or let them fall away a little bit....w/ the way it is now, there's going to be VERY little droop travel from ride height if they are fully captured, as they're only compressed maybe 1.5-2" w/ the weight of the rig...

What we did on my rear end was mad a little round plate for the spring perch on the axle, this holds the very last coil, to the axle with a bolt going through the middle, and the round plate sandwiching the coil to the axle.

Even if the spring gets maxed out, the coil stays attached to the axle, and when the suspension re compresses, the spring is guided right back into place.
 
Made a rubber "guide" or bumpstop.

The limiting factor in suspension travel for me is my shocks, when they bottom out, no moire suspension droop. The spring can never pass the alow point of the bumpstop so it cant fall out.

Dirball uses chains through his springs. Seems to keep them in place for the most part.
 
If you're really that light.... why not air shocks?

Cost-wise, they're close to what a decent set of monotubes cost.... and yeah, they've got drawbacks, but no moreso than 2nd hand TJ springs.

honestly.......I've really thought about it....

as much as I dislike the air shocks.....they may be a viable alternative for the rear of this thing.....
but I'm going to go w/ the TJ's at first and see how they wind up....

There's only one way to find out....

My gut says you'd be better off with something that had a bit less uncontrolled droop... although it may not matter if you've got plenty of room to stuff the tires. Combine that with a center limiting strap (which I'm guessing you'll want regardless of the springs on it), and it might make good pressure on the drooping side no matter what.

But 2" isn't a whole hell of a lot.....
 
Maybe see if you could get some air shocks that have a threaded body. That way when you have some more cash you could throw the springs on it.

I think airshocks are getting a bad name. I am almost considering trading my coilovers in for airshocks.

I dunno that they've got a bad name.....I mean, it seems like everybody runs them now....

I just don't like them......from former experience with them (well before everyone was running them on their rock crawler rigs) putting them on mini-baja cars.....
I just don't like that you can't get any real spring rate out of them w/o alot of pressure in them.....
they're a PITA, and virtually impossible to be able to go fast, and crawl, w/ the same setup..
