Look for hikes described as "kid friendly", they're the easier ones usually shorter with little elevation change. Twin falls off of 90 would be a good choice for you, not too many vistas but still a nice walk through the forest following the river with a nice waterfall...
You did understand that the M1A is basically the same gun right? It's on my list of guns to buy asap as well. Just avoid the Cheap Chinese copies and expect to spend in the neighborhood of $1500 for new. :awesomework:
*cough* M1A */cough*
Lots of PARTS have been surplussed but ALL receivers were destroyed by being cut in half. A handfull made it out and were welded back together and resold legally by a couple different companies, but I wouldn't want to touch them. There are no "new" M14's on the market.
M14 is full auto, title 2 weapon requiring a tax stamp. Move to Idaho if you want one. But good luck, because they were never officially made available to civilians. The M1A is to the M14 as the AR15 is to the M16.
Nope. M14 is the 7.62x51mm chambered select fire successor to the M1 garand. The civilian version is known as the M1A, and it gets the removable magazine but not the auto sear.

M16/4 is 5.56 only...
Don't need any lessons. Go rent a tandem for your first time, they're more stable. They'll give you vests to wear. Agua Verde near UW campus is a good place to go, lots of calm water around it to get started in.
