4l80e. What would you do?

I have a good low mile 4l80e in my buggy. I bought a controller that's supposed to override the nessisary of speed sensors and alow you to program a variety of shift points. Then someone was at the house and said why not just turn it into a manual body so it doesn't require any electronics. I didn't know this was possible or if it's even a good idea. What are your thoughts! And if it is possible to switch out the electronics what is involved?

There is a guy who makes a shifter that has a series of switches that selects gears. From what I recall there is only a few wires that have to be grounded or not to tell the trans what gear to shift to. I recall a write-up somewhere. I'll look and post a link if I come up with anything.
