Just curious what kind of careers are out there in Al or Tn area or the Southeast in general bringing home around 80-120 k a year.
Preferably something using a Bachelors degree in business management/ administration or Sales experience.
Curious what careers are out there in management or sales type background?

Most of your bigger Industrial sales jobs are in that range....

Buisiness management degrees are near-worthless here. My dad has a bachelors in business management and he sells blow to make ends meet. College debt, 4 boys, and a worthless degree. I'd find a job and then start looking at real estate.

Just curious as to "why" you need to make 80-120K in AL/TN? (which is a HUGE range/jump in pay...IMO) Around me, `120K/year salary is considered "a lot" of money unless you own the business you work at...

Not to be negative, but a "business management" degree itself is not worth a lot, it's the first job or 2 you land, plus the experience earned from that you build a career on.

Well said. I'm currently persuing my degree in Business Management & Supervision, which like you say, is a pretty common degree to an extent. But my background through my current job which I've been at for 7 years as of Nov. 30 of this year, paired with a degree in BM&S will suffice for me and my lifestyle.

Same around here, if you makin' $80k+ then you are making BANK....I only make a little over half that now, but that's also with no college degree and I'm only 25 so it's not too shabby for my current single bachelor lifestyle.

And also for what it's worth, I work for Siemens in the Energy Division. While scouting for jobs, if you run across anything with Siemens, I would highly consider it if it's in your desired pay scale. Siemens has several different divisions...Energy, Wind Power, Healthcare, Electronics, etc. Or anything related to power plants or power companies. Ppl are always gonna need power.....so there's job security there if you can land a job. Siemens has done WELL through this shitty economic slump America has endured over the past several years. Siemens is a German based company and most all divisions of the company are international businesses. International customers means more business aside from only relying on the American clients. thumb.gif

I've got a bachelor in secondary education.
Used it to get a job with Drummond company.
Shoal creek underground mine. Supervisor.

Big risks underground but it puts you in that salary range...

A real good Machinist job could put you in that range if you have the right amount of experience, or anything dealing with Energy or Power should be a pretty safe bet for a long term job and make Bankroll!

Ive got a pretty good job/career in sales now and not looking to leave what i am doing. I know a bachelors degree doesnt mean much now a days and experience will get you further in life than a deg:ree. However there are a good bit of sales jobs that are able to make in this range and higher but curious in what industry you guys are doing it in.

doesnt change the fact Siemens produces mostly junk.

I use some software daily that says copyright "Siemens AG 2001-2004" that didnt go live until April 2009. And it is JUNK. Like the worst piece of **** software you've ever seen. If my Hotmail locked up or ****ed up HALF as much as this **** I'd have changed providers.
I run 34 powerplants in the western half of the US, most are GE 7FA's but have a few Siemens/Westinghouse **** piles in that mix as well. They are the Yugo of power generation. Junk.
The one we've got south of Vegas easily costs me random $250k hits throughout a month and thats just commodity margin, not even the fact we still have to repair it. That pile of **** is already late to get online this morning, ****ing junk!

Siemens may pay well but they aint got nothing on GE, Mitsubishi, ABB, Rolls Royce for quality of end product.

Sorry to pee in your wheeties this AM, but I hate Siemens.

X2 We use it for our operating system. Least user friendly I've seen. Lots of problems....Randomly does **** for no reason. Yokogowa has to be the best I've used. I'm sure Siemens makes some good ****....I ain't seen it though.

Just about any work you can land with Southern Company / AL Power is in that range if you have a degree.

Pharma sales will be in that range. My degree is in architectural engineering. After 14 years with a contractor I went to work for Philips Healthcare. Best move I ever made. Big company big money. A GOOD degree and experience is what you need to make $100K +

How does one make that jump with no sales experience? Civil Engineering here since 1993 and am bored to death daily in Cubtopia.

I dont know for 100% but from what I've heard Pharma reps really comes down to luck of the draw on what drugs you have to peddle. If you get some good ones they also throw in some **** ones. But if your good ones are badass (viagra) then you slaughter it.

I know a guy that does Medical Equipment sales, he mainly does MRI and X-ray machines (from what we can tell), and the mf'er isnt all that sharp but he has to pull down $500k+ a year and has for the past 10 years I've known him. So Medical Equipment looks pretty good unless you are selling wheelchairs/crutches and mobility scooters..... molaugh
Hes super secretive about the whole deal, my wife tried to get some insight a few years back when she was looking to change it up and he wouldnt tell her anything.

IT Management and/or IT consulting is good field to be in. Their is a lot of project management required in the industry and you could use your Business Mgmt degree. As someone with a Business Mgmt degree I can tell you they are worthless. I looked at ways to specialize myself, so I chose to get an MBA in IT Mgmt and I have since focused on a specific technology (Microsoft SharePoint). The technology focus has been critical to success for me, because I have become an expert in the product. I work for an IT Consulting company and I used my technology focus to sell and implement SharePoint for clients. I now manage a group of 10 SharePoint consultants and my team is responsible for delivering all projects using SharePoint for my company.

My point is a non-specialized degree is pretty much worthless. You have to gain specialization in an area that interests you. Many people achieve specialization through their degree (Accounting, Engineering, Architecture, Law, Medical, etc.), so if you don't go that route find something you are passionate about and commit!
