99 f250 diesel lift pump and rail pump?

I am looking at getting a 99 f250 with a 7.3l i was told that the lift pump and or the rail pump might be going out. Is there a way to test these and how much of a pain is it to replace them he said that you have to time the pumps with the injectors?

99???2nd gen PSD's have a lift pump on the frame rail...And if you'e talking about the HPOP, then it's a simple unbolt/bolt on deal, just takes a little to get to some of the bolts and the gear bolt...no timing involved---ya just gotta make sure not to crank the engine with the old one out...:redneck:

I wouldn't listen to too much technical info that guy gives you :haha: (not referring to Kev)

The PSD's aren't quite as simple as the cummins, but I'd rather work on those then a newer gasser any day.
