Any Sig owners?

So the wife has been wanting a gun and been looking at the Sig Mosquito since its small and .22 cal.

Anybody have one, thoughts or something similar..

I have heard a lot (or at least more...) of misfeeding issues with the mosquito and theyre picky on ammo.

Go Walther P22. I love mine, likes the cheap blazer ammo and higher end stuff as well. My GF loves shooting it as well, it fits her small hands even with the larger backstrap installed and i don't have an issue shooting it even with my larger girlish hands. :redneck:

I bought the Sig Mosquito for my Girlfriend several years ago before a camping trip just cause she has a hard time pulling the slides back on the bigger guns. But all said and done its a great little gun about the best feeling in my hand grip wise. I have big hands though. After putting a ton of rounds through it the spring on the slide is getting weak but it came with a spare just have not swapped it out yet. Shoots pretty good and has some really good features for the price! Hope this helps.:awesomework:

I have a Mosquito. It's fun as hell to shoot.

It likes good ammo though, but still it's $7 for a brick of 100. If you keep it well lubed you can run some of the bulk federal or automatch through it. But still, I've had it jam up on me with the cheaper stuff. I like running cheap stuff through it because you can count on jams and it really helps me with my failure drills. CCI mini mags = zero issues with the gun.

It's pretty accurate for being such an inexpensive plinker.

If you want a fun little plinking gun go for it, if you want a more accurate target gun go with a Ruger Mark Series.

If your wife has tiny hands the Walther P22 may be more her flavor but I personally don't like the controls on it. It's a little smoother gun with a bit better trigger.

And lastly GSG has a bad ass .22 1911 that sure is sweet for the same price range. I've had my eye on one and will be getting one when the wife abides.

Forgot to add, if you pick up a skeeter stay away from any gun that starts with the A serial numbers. You want one with the F series serial numbers.

The A ones were prone to jamming even with quality ammo.

Yeah it is a little picky on the ammo but .22 cal is cheap even for the nicer stuff when your just plinking. And the Misfeeding issue seemed like only if you rest your hand on the magazine or rest it on something it would have feeding issues at least on ours. Also the weak spring doesnt help. Was looking at the Walther for her too just did not like the size of it too small felt almost toy like. But one of our friends has the Walther and its a great little gun too!

I have one also... its threaded and I run it with a Gemtech Outback about 80% of the time. When I run the suppressor I use the remington subsonic ammo. I have over 1500 rounds through it and I really have zero complaints. It is what it is being a .22 rimfire, they are dirty little mo-fo's so keep it clean and it will give you a life time of trouble free plinkin or coon/opossum/cat killing. I also did a little work to the feed ramp and have noticed a decline in misfeeds or jams. I dont know an auto .22 anything that does not jam now and then.

I am a very heavy SIG owner and highly recomend there rigs to anyone.

I was originally looking at a .380 cause it was smaller and I really don't want anything big. I don't need a gun bigger then me. But he said he thought those were too much fire power for me.

I've never even shot a gun, (other then BB and air soft guns) and if I chose to actually get one, I will take classes. Although I'm trying to tell Michael I'd be scarier without them :redneck:

It's more for self defense yes. I take walks with my daughter and sometimes I just don't feel safe her and I alone.

I guess I'm just curious more then anything at this point. I've seen you all talk about them over the years and I'm totally clueless.

I agree with the .380 if it is for self defense. Go to the indoor range in Bellevue, they have a whole bunch of guns you can try.

Yes. It's enough that if you are good with it you can put down any four legged critters with it (dogs and such). It doesn't have vicious muzzle blast or recoil so follow up shots are a breeze.

Any any two legged critter will think twice about messing with you with it pointed in their face.

*sigh* (here comes the argument). You can argue "stopping power" all day in the larger calibers. But shot placement is key. Hit's count, misses don't.

Personally I'd be comfortable with a small revolver in 38special or a .380 auto. But if you can't hit the broadside of a barn with it or are "afraid" of the muzzle blast or recoil it isn't going to do you any good. My wife can sling 10 rounds out of my .22 caliber skeeter on a man sized target in the 8 ring as fast as she can pull the trigger. That's good enough to ruin anyone's day.

What it boils down to is finding a gun you are comfortable with and practicing with it at LEAST once a quarter. Also grab up a book ***led "In the Gravest Extreme" by Massad Ayoob. It's a great book that covers most topics for defensive handgun use.

See, I really like the smallness of the majority of the .380s I've seen. I really don't want something strapped to me that's going to crawl down my leg.

yeah the LCP is tiny and it can be bought at a reasonable price. We were originally looking at revolvers but the wife really liked the size of LCP and according to the guy at County Line gun shop in Mckenna the revolvers have much more recoil. Ive even thought about getting a LCP for me to carry on the days I dont feel like carrying my tank of a .45 around:redneck:

I am also thinking that as my first gun, I just want simple. I know an experienced gun owner or someone who's done this for a while has way more knowledge then I will start with.

A woman I work with took the class a dgs on Bothell Everett hwy. She's hunted big game with rifles all her life but never had experience with hand guns. She really enjoyed the class and says she learned a lot from the instructors.

I personally liked the LCP over the revolvers we looked at because of there so called "safety functions" lol, I liked that you actually have to chamber a bullet and that it has the double action trigger just because we have kids. No I do not leave my gun anywhere that my kids can get to it, it is always locked up in the safe but kids are smart these days and any extra safety features is a plus in my book :awesomework:

Another thing to remember when shopping for guns, just because it feels light when holding compared to another gun doesnt mean its going to be lighter once its fully loaded with ammo. I think revolvers would be a little harder to conceal for a girl since they are kinda bulky and most women wear tight clothing, I personally wouldnt want my wife to carry her gun in her purse, id much rather her carry it on her, just my $.02.

Like everyone has already said, go to several DIFFERENT ranges, and rent different guns. They all carry the basic same ones, and then they each carry a lot that are different than the other guys. It is pretty cheap as long as you stay in the same caliber. For example, go to a range and ask to rent .380. They will make you buy their ammo. Then you get a gun, go put some rounds through, then trade it in on another. As long as they are all the same caliber, you get one rental fee, and only have to buy one (or two or three) boxes of ammo. Then the next time, try a different caliber, or go to a different range and try out the guns they have.

Don't be in hurry. Find one that fits YOU!
