What causes a birf to be all chewed up ? the inside of the knucle was smooth like it should be. but the out side of the birf was scared all the way around in a few different spots.

If you lose a trunion bearing or the brass bushing in the spindle is wasted it will let the birf move around. The inside of the birf usually gets chewed up if you don't use the snap ring on the hub end.

the bearings appreard to be fine but i didnt pay much attention to them i tossed em out since i had new ones anyhow. I dont have the snap ring on the end of the birf but the inside of the birf is fine its just the out side of the bell thats been chewed on.

Thanks

he means the snap ring at the end of the birf. in the locking hub mechanism for the asin hubs. if you have warn or similar hubs it will be a bolt with washer

Yes, always use snap rings! Learned that from my brother at a young age :awesomework: by the way, be aware of warn and other random name Toyota aftermarket hubs....JUNK!
