May be a repost:flipoff: But here's some pretty cool pics I hadn't seen yet of the slide I got in an email.:awesomework:

These are photos of a "slump" or land slide at mile post 108 on SR 410, Chinook Pass, west of Naches, Washington in Yakima County. I worked on this the first Sunday night of it. This has happened in the past, as recently as 1956. In the 19th century, this happened and was about 7 miles long. It will continue to happen. It is not that the land slid over the highway and river, the hillside went down and the ground to the south of it went up. the river bed rose 20 feet above its normal route plain. The highway went up about 60 feet, the roadway crumbled and slid off. The river stopped for a while until, water being water, it found a way downhill. This was sooner than later, which was a good thing, as there was the possibility of flooding. the ground was described as feeling like a freshly rotorvated field and was hard to walk on. The river flow was about 400 cps and made its way over another roadway that is the only all year way into the Chinook Pass area. When the snow flies, this will be the only way in or out. the river is expected to increase the rate of flow twice to 800 cps soon, with rain up stream. In the spring runoff, the flow will go to 4000 cps. the temporary fix is being worked on and the permanent fix is a way out. There are 600 households above this slide. the side is about one half mile long.

Crazy

I guess when the log cabin had the landscaping done they requested rolling grass. :redneck:

Those pics were cool the first time they were posted right after it happened.... :D

The slide is about 3/4 mile passed the gravel pit on that sharp corner.

great post bud. crazy to think we were there not long before that took place. totally nuts. glad it didn't take place a few weeks earlier! Looks like a very expensive clean up

Pics don't do this justice---in the 3rd pic in the upper right corner, there's a bare knob with a few trees to the left---I walked right up to the edge while hunting....absolutely astonishing in person....:yikes:
