I'm dealing with a 1995 Cat 3116 fueling issue.
Truck will run at 50-100% throttle as soon as a let off to let it idle, it will idle for about a minute then starts to run out of fuel and dies.

Lets start with the basics. Fuel fuel filters and air filter restricted. Any smoke. Is it missing, missfiring. The rack between the governor and the injectors is a pain in the ass to adjust.
I have a love hate relationship with these engines. Love the all mechanical design but hate the design. lol

Fuel "line in" has never had a lift pump. Bypass the entire pickup fuel line and i am running it on clear hose (as to make sure it's getting fuel) directly into pump with 12v pump feeding it.
Truck has sat for 18 months.
Fuel tank has been drained and refilled. Metal screen has been cleaned, the fuel filter changed.
Fuel is returning to the main tank.
Filter has fuel in it.

Pulled pump apart both check valves appear adequate. Although one I could blow back through.
Actual pump is out and appears in good shape. Cam is turning in pump.

Air filter is removed.

Really need to check fuel pressure between the filter and the hardline :woody: and the rear of the cylinder head.
Sitting may have the governor sticking. Has the engine warmed up when running.
Home or on the road?

It has good pressure at the filter. Filter has a drain on it.
All the lines are hard except for main feed from tank to pump.
I ran it long enough to get it up to temp, made no difference.
It has throttle response between 50%_100% throttle
I'm at home.

Looks like this.
No prefilter just the screen.
Then a large filter between pump and head.

I have the pump dismantled.
2,6 and 5 appear in decent condition.
I was going to call CAT Monday to see if they have a "rebuild" kit.

RustyC you a mechanic?

Yes I am. I work at Thompson Tractor in Bham.
Probably have to get the individual parts. I have never seen a kit for those valves.
